Vance to attend event with evangelist who said Harris used 'witchcraft'

Source: NBC News

Sept. 27, 2024, 12:50 PM EDT / Updated Sept. 27, 2024, 1:59 PM EDT

Ohio Sen. JD Vance is set to participate in a town hall in Pennsylvania on Saturday with evangelical religious leader Lance Wallnau, who said after this month's presidential debate that Vice President Kamala Harris used "witchcraft."

Wallnau, a Texas-based celebrity evangelist, is a self-described prophet. Two decades ago, he coined and popularized the Seven Mountains Mandate — an increasingly popular belief on the American right that says conservative Christians are called to occupy positions of power in seven key spheres of society, including business, education, media and government.

Since 2016, Wallnau and his allies have presented former President Donald Trump as a flawed but anointed leader — like the biblical figure King Cyrus — who has been chosen by God to restore Christian power in America. After denying Trump’s 2020 election defeat and telling followers that God had a plan to keep him in office, Wallnau joined pro-Trump protestors in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021, to pray for divine intervention to stop Congress from certifying the electoral count as rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol.

In recent months, Wallnau — with support from the right-wing activist Charlie Kirk — has hosted a series of get-out-the-vote worship rallies in swing states, where he and other evangelists have delivered a blend of pro-Trump political commentary and prophetic warnings about the coming end times, framing the 2024 election as an epic struggle between forces of good and evil.

“Adding his voice to the chorus was self-appointed prophet Lance Wallnau, a leader in the New Apostolic Reformation, a loose network of charismatic pastors who claim that God speaks to them. In a broadcast that the extremist watchdog group Right Wing Watch captured, Wallnau called Harris “the spirit of Jezebel in a way that will be even more ominous than Hillary because she’ll bring a racial component and she’s younger.” In this, he was referring to the notion that the Biblical character Jezebel is the embodiment of a false prophet.”

utterly dangerous to individuals, and dangerous to the Earth that hosts them. I want a sea-change where religion is concerned once we have the magas tamed again. Just having churches pay taxes is the smallest point of that. Seeing Christianity treated like any other religion in the country is a big point for me. Not allowing their disgraceful words, dogma, and instead seeing other religions... and those with NO religion lifted up as examples of good citizenship is paramount on my mine. I want to be able to wear my pentacle outside my shirt and not get dirty side glances or evil stares. I want someone who has decided no religion is correct for them to be able to wear a t-shirt or something that declares his/her belief, openly and proudly. I want no more individuals turned away from services because of their religion and or gender (which usually comes back to some sort of practiced religious dogma). I want all laws, local and national, to be reviewed for the hint of religious law, and those that are "biblically" based stripped from our law books. For example, there's no one who can convince me their "reasons" for abortion bans are not based on their interpretation of the Bible. My interpretation is just as valid, and so is anyone else's. They should have no right to impose their beliefs on any one or group of people.

Cyrus lived c. 600–530 BC, so I don't see how he could have liberated the Christians. He promoted tolerance of all people and religions, so I can't see the comparison to Trump.

All of this "God used a flawed tool" nonsense is just a sleazy and intellectually dishonest way to excuse for their support for a dangerous and damaged man.

"One of the fundamental rights granted by Cyrus was freedom of religion. In a time when religious intolerance was prevalent, Cyrus’ decree allowed people to freely practice their faith without fear of persecution or discrimination. This groundbreaking right laid the foundation for religious tolerance and diversity, setting an example for future civilizations and inspiring the protection of religious freedoms in subsequent periods."

"Recognizing the beauty and richness of diverse cultures, Cyrus championed respect for cultural diversity. His policies aimed to preserve and celebrate the different customs, languages, and traditions within his empire. By encouraging cultural exchange and mutual respect, Cyrus fostered an environment that promoted harmony among different communities and set a precedent for embracing cultural diversity in future societies."

Setting aside those who accept "The Craft" as a spiritual and cultural practice, most mainstream Americans no longer fixate on fear of witchcraft as an actual supernatural reality.

Even people who hold to general notions of God enjoy watching fantasy entertainment featuring witches, wizards, ghosts, etc. Taking those concepts seriously, much less taking a hard line stance against them isn't going to win their faction any political clout.

So, let 'em bang their gong against witches during the entire month of October when people are decorating their houses with black cats and jack o' lanterns and vampires. Squelching people's fun is always a sure fire way to earn votes.

Everything you don't like or understand, just call it WitchCraft!

Takes the worry out of having to think rationally, really, so all good.

How do Christianity, WitchCraft, Trump worship and end-of-times thinking blend together, I'd like to know.

But yes, be scared and avoid that pesky critical and rational thinking that hurts your brain.

Sat Sep 28, 2024, 11:01 AM

who is fond of saying that the early Catholic church actually chained the bible to the pulpit and kept everyone but priests from communicating spiritual truth. This caused a certain misguidedness, for example the selling of indulgences (basically bribing a priest to absolve one from sins).

Then when we had the reformation, the Protestant idea was that each person was their own priest based on their own interpretation of scripture.

So this so-called 'prophet' has essentially sold himself for fame and money. Many of these Evangelical pastors have fallen prey to this temptation - their own fears and insecurities lead them to distract themselves from true pastoral care with pride, anger, greed, envy, lust, gluttony and addictive distractions that keep people from elevating their consciousness into realms of reason, love, peace, joy and finally enlightenment.

The problem with adhering to the teachings of one such as Wallnau is that when you sacrifice faith and values for temporal power and wealth, you will still learn but that learning will be as a result of the suffering you endure from such slavish devotion to someone who cares only for their own aggrandizement.

Sadly, this is not the true message of Christ.
