National Republican Senate Committee instructs GOP candidates to support birth control ahead of vote on contraception

Source: ABC News

June 4, 2024, 11:19 PM

The National Republican Senatorial Committee released a memo on Tuesday that advises GOP Senate candidates to underscore their support for birth control.

The memo, which comes a day ahead of Wednesday’s vote on whether or not to advance the Right to Contraceptive Act -- legislation that would codify the rights of individuals to access contraception and the right of doctors to provide it -- urges candidates to voice their support for the bill.

"There is not a single Republican Senator or Senate candidate advocating for new restrictions on contraception. Democrats are trying to make this a campaign issue because their policies on the economy, the border, and global stability have completely failed," NRSC Executive Director Jason Thielman wrote in the memo, obtained by ABC News.

"Republicans support access to birth control. Democrats are trying to make this a campaign issue and scare voters because they can’t talk about their failed policies on every other issue. Senator Ernst’s bill lays out commonsense solutions that Republicans should strongly consider embracing on the campaign trail," the memo concludes.

Out of the entire scenario involving procreation, they have not said a word about contraception.

That is because most of them have no idea what the word means.

Why your party fights tooth and nails against the contraception mandate in the ACA. It’s almost like they don’t really want to prevent abortions.

That would give the SCOTUS no excuse to ban it judicially as well.

Democrats need to think this shit through to all the potential ways the GQP can fuck shit up. Because they will.

We need to take the House back because "thinking through" is irrelevant when you don't control the floor schedule for legislation in one of the 2 chambers of Congress.

GOTV.

It's all to get the GOPpies to pick a side. Fixing this in a bill that's all for show without the votes to pass also can show how freaking serious the Dems are. If they want something to garner votes on, then they can "show" us they are serious about going all the way, not just compromising with people who are deadset against it.

since 2021 when Joe Biden was inaugurated and Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate. After the fall of Roe, additional bills were crafted but Democrats lost the House at the end of 2022..

They have pretty much conceded that since this is an election year, little or nothing is going to get done now and I expect they WILL go on recess in August so they can campaign.

And yes, this is all "for show" (for ads) and after the blow-back from the IVF issue in Alabama, the GOP is on the defense big time and the "strategy" ( "thinking through" ) is to get through this election, and hopefully take back the House, and hold the Senate (the latter which will be a tall order).
