Top Democratic donor gives $250k to support Nikki Haley, citing need to defeat Trump in primary

Source: CNN

Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn and a prominent Democrat donor, says he has donated to a super PAC supporting Republican presidential contender Nikki Haley because the ongoing GOP primary fight represents the first of just two opportunities to stop Donald Trump from winning the White House again.

In a post on LinkedIn, Hoffman said he will “enthusiastically vote” for President Joe Biden next November, but he noted his “first priority is American democracy and the integrity of our legal system.”

“That means my first priority is to defeat Trump, and the primary is the first of two chances to do so,” he added.

Hoffman has donated $250,000 to a pro-Haley super PAC, the SFA Fund, his political adviser Dmitri Mehlhorn confirmed to CNN.

Hoffman added that “Nikki Haley would not be as good for America as Joe Biden, but America would survive her administration.”

Hoffman would be better served waiting to see if the trials start changing minds before throwing money away. It's possible that the trials will take a toll, public support could change, and someone else could be the nominee. But right now, throwing money at a challenger is a waste.

Making sure whomever is elected owes him.

Back when he was alive, Carl Lindner (former owner of the Reds) would give to both sides in every campaign that might affect his many businesses. Usually 3-4 X more for the republican, but he always wanted to make sure that every politician in southwest Ohio was in his pocket.

Of course, if we got all this money out of politics and corporations as people BS, we would likely have a better country.

He knows Haley doesn't have a chance next to Biden. But if he can help Haley get past Trump, that's a good thing. Whether it'll happen is another story. And I still hold that despite the GOP polls, Trump's support isn't as large as they show. I don't think, especially in light of recent stories, that enough GOP and indies won't vote for Trump.

I'm concerned that R's who aren't magas may try to rationalize a vote that "at least it's not for *rump." And, like this guy said, at least the country would survive. I'm not so sure of that, no matter what R is in power.

I hate the idea of a rematch between T and Biden. The entire next year is going to be horrendous on the country, people, and I already am feeling the knots in my stomach tighten. And this, all the while believing T is an inveterate loser. But I do wonder if we're better off with the rematch, than up against any other R. They're all losers... I'm just trying to get inside an R voter's head... and not doing so well at the attempt. Anyone else have thoughts like these?

Biden barely won & it SHOULD have been a runaway. We simply cant take the chance of trump regaining the WH again.
I've seen others here say similar; if there WAS a Haley administration at least we can be pretty sure there'd be a 2028 election. The Cult will not follow her nor would they "take to the streets" if she lost in '28

It bothers me to see so many people (not just here) hoping trump is the nominee because "he's the easiest to beat". Well, we thought that in '16 too. Even with the EC being used, there's simply no way it should've been that close. And there are factors we HAVE to consider now that we didnt have in 2020; A LOT more must be done with the border. Its a disaster. And hopefully China's economy will continue going in the shitter because that will help drive oil prices down. People see gas prices every day & its a terrible campaign ad. If russia was out of UKR that would help a great deal too, but we know thats not happening. Then there are the other factors that worry people but I cant go into them.

Besides, with what the Kochs will kick in, and Trump's mind slowly kicking out, I don't think this money will make an iota of a difference to the outcome of the Republican primary.
