Attorney warned Trump 'it's going to be a crime' if he didn't comply with subpoena for classified docs: Sources

Source: ABC News

November 29, 2023, 5:02 PM

One of former president Donald Trump's current attorneys told special counsel Jack Smith's team that, within days of the Justice Department issuing a subpoena last year for all classified documents at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, she "very clearly" warned Trump that if he failed to fully comply -- but then swore he did -- "it's going to be a crime," according to sources familiar with the matter.

Sources said the lawyer, Jennifer Little, told investigators Trump "absolutely" understood the warning, which came during a pivotal meeting at Mar-a-Lago with Trump and another attorney, Evan Corcoran, who had recently joined Trump's legal team.

What Little allegedly told Smith's team earlier this year may shed further light on how Smith came to accuse Trump of knowingly violating the law, saying in his June 9 indictment against Trump that the former president defied a subpoena by hiding more than 100 classified documents from the FBI and even his own legal team, and then having his legal team certify otherwise.

As ABC News reported in September, Corcoran, who was Trump's lead attorney on the matter at the time, allegedly told investigators that he also emphasized to Trump the importance of complying with the subpoena, even warning that authorities might search the Mar-a-Lago estate if he didn't comply.

... if he was so dumb that he didn't even care what was in the documents and he didn't even think to monetize them. I think he's so dumb he just took them as trophies. There are plenty of reports that he kept insisting "They're mine!" like a five year old.

I think he's too stupid to try to sell them.

He doesn't miss a trick when it comes to monetizing things.

Besides, I think Kushner was one of the major players in the stolen documents,
apparently he requested quite a few.

I think he was the bag man.

He works for Putin and MBS. I think he gave them information about agents in their countries. Probably other stuff as well. I hope they have evidence to prove all of the charges against him, plus more.

or disappearance.

One high level US asset in the Kremlin had to be extracted at considerable danger and risk.

So yes it is obvious that Trump and Kushner gave the intelligence information away very soon
after Trump entered office. That must have been Putin's top instruction to Trump.

The CIA is not known for complete stupidity or naivety and they can add 2+2 and get 4.

Of course they know what happened, and probably how it happened.

By the way, ex-CIA director John Brennan has said that all the stolen documents have not been
recovered, some of them never will. And the damage is incalculable. Basically we have to assume
everything has been compromised and go from that premise.

Yes some of it can be proven of course. But very unlikely we will hear much about it.
Most of it is classified. I hope Jack Smith can get something into court that will do the job.

Probably at least 50 points higher than the Donald. Alas his interest in democracy as well as his scruples, seem to be infinitesimal, much like his beloved FIL.

I don't yet despair of him getting entangled in the web of justice, but suspect it will be tougher than for the boss.

He would be a lame duck as soon as he is elected. There will be no constitutional amendment to change term limits. Does he just declare martial law and annoint himself President for life? Whats the end game here?

I think that's pretty much it. He's planning to seize ALL the power. It sounds crazy, but he has people helping him plan the whole thing out.

Last time, I think he assumed that he was going to have a lot more power as potus than he actually did and was surprised to learn just how many restrictions on his power there were, thanks to that pesky piece of paper called the U.S. Constitution.

He'll be much better prepared in 2025 than he was in 2017...which is just one of the many reasons why he absolutely cannot be allowed to win in 2024.
