U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Monday scolded John Lauro, an attorney for Donald Trump, after he accused special counsel Jack Smith of violating his oath of office.
Court watcher Brandi Buchman reported from the hearing called to set a trial date for Trump's federal election interference case.
Chutkan noted that the special counsel's office had organized the evidence in a manner allowing a speedy trial. But Trump's team has proposed an April 2026 trial date, which Chutkan insisted was not acceptable.
The hearing became heated as Lauro argued for more time. .............................

(7,781 posts)I thought that lawyer was fired already, I can't and won't keep track of them or remember their names if I can help it.
Just delaying his prison at this point, trying for rest of his already mostly over life, but he's gonna wind up awaiting trial in a cell as soon as one actually starts and he does what he does best?

(13,913 posts)The only outrage here is his crooked client attempted to steal a federal election to stay in power & is still allowed to tweet accusations and threats. The judge needs to throw his butt in jail.

This bimbo, I mean, lawyer is just using flattery to try and calm P011358097890 down. He is probably in a state and not easy to be around. His insecurity level must be off the chart.

(44,738 posts)Trumps lawyers have approximately 6 months to prepare to defend the indefensible.
Six months after Japan fucked up and attacked Pearl Harbor, our namby pamby libtard President FDR and his Admirals and their Officers and Chiefs and Sailors kicked Japans Ass at the Battle of Midway. Turning the tide if you will. No lawyers involved.
I dont see what the problem is.
May I humbly submit. GO NAVY!

(60,320 posts)Lawyers primary role is to find problems. Creative, problem busting lawyers are not the norm.
They find problems for blocking motions, overturning rulings, launching appeals, etc. Problems with opposition arguments, problems with evidence, chain of custody, etc.
The US military, especially in war, is creative and has a "can do" attitude.

From Brandi Buchman's hearing thread:
Now Molly Gaston is up.
Gaston: I think there's a reason Mr. Lauro avoided answering your exact question on how much time to review. He doesn't want to admit that search tools used in modern criminal trials means its possible to be ready much sooner than April 2026.
Gaston notes how Trump posted many video and messages online addressing this probe, showing he knew for a long time this was coming.
Then she notes: "The night the indictment was unsealed, Mr. Lauro called the indictment a regurgitation of the Jan. 6 Cmte report."
Gaston: Trump has 4 counsels of record, 2 attys who attended arraignment and one involved with pre-indictment prep; When Lauro went on air, podcasts, he described a number of motions he plans to raise, said he read Pence's book twice and knew what witnesses to call, what to ask.
...
Gaston: The defendant, formerly, the senior most official in our federal government is accused of historic crimes, attempting to overturn presidential election, disenfranchise millions of Americans, disrupt peaceful transfer of power ...
Gaston cont: there's a strong need in public interest to hear this in open court, and proceed to fair open trial...
Brandi (who is a reporter, not a 'court watcher' as rawstory called her) is very good at capturing the events. She'll be covering the not-so-Proud Boys' sentencing for seditious conspiracy et al this week, beginning tomorrow.

(8,178 posts)Saying in a calm, even voice to tone it down isn't what I'd describe as a scolding.
but then I was raised in a culture of hard knocks, quite literally.
Verbal Scolds were never, ever expressed with a calm even tone.
Let's do take down the temperature, but just saying it once.
After that there's a fine, a penalty. real consequences.
Don't baby that infantile behavior. Cuz it ain't gonna stop unless you take a harder line approach.
