If anyone will be immune to Russian state propaganda, it will be the mothers.of dead Russian soldiers.
Moms don't wanna hear any excuse about their kids dying because "they had to go kill Nazis", or some other made-up excuse.
P.s.: The headline was truncated because it's too long for DU limits. The last words are "heavy losses in Ukraine"

(16,171 posts)You can't draft guys one day and throw them in a brutal war the next. New soldiers are a couple months from even being minimally effective.

(114,614 posts)Once they're out, they're out and don't get any more training. They're out of shape and unfamiliar with newer technology. Since they were once military, they'll just be thrown right into combat. It will not work out well.
Conscripts will be late teens and might work out better, they'll be in better shape and get at least some basic training. The problem is that none of them will be ready to go for at least six weeks and Russia can't afford to wait that long. Hence, the reservists.

(3,558 posts)In order to get replacement troops to the front. Boot camp times that had been as long as 12 weeks were shortened to 4 in some cases, IIRC. That was pretty much just long enough to get guys in OK shape and learn how to hold a rifle*...not much else.
*As Eugene Sledge said in his memoire, "With The Old Breed", you never called your rifle "a gun", or you'd get chewed out by your drill instructor: A gun is a large caliber barrel (aka, cannon to civilians). Think 16 inch "guns" on a battleship or 20mm anti aircraft guns, etc. But soldiers always carry a rifle.

(5,097 posts)doesn't care if there will be more grieving mothers throughout Russia. At what point, at what number of dead and wounded, will he stop?
He made a huge miscalculation. A real man would suck it up, admit the mistake, cut his losses and back off. Pooty's version of a real man is riding a horse bare chested. What an imbecile.
