The GOP groups of two Wyoming counties have both voted to no longer recognize Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as a member of the Republican Party, the latest moves against the congresswoman months after she voted to impeach former President Trump.
Martin Kimmet, the chairman of the Park County Republicans, wrote in a Thursday letter to Cheney, You will no longer be recognized as the official Republican Congressional Representative by the Park County Republican Party, according to the Casper Star-Tribune.
The Carbon County Republicans followed this move by voting unanimously to back a formal resolution denouncing Cheney.
......................................
The Park County letter and the Carbon County resolution contained similar lines, both ending with, In the immortal words of the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump ...Youre Fired!
..................................
...............................
Cheney already faces eight primary challengers for her seat ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, and Trump has promised to throw an endorsement behind a Cheney opponent of his choice.

(42,862 posts)... that extra seat. It doesn't matter if she never votes with the Democrats... any advantage is still an advantage. You never know when it will be needed. It certainly won't hurt, and it could motivate others to go ahead and abandon the GOP as well.

(21,900 posts)Trump won there with almost 70% of the vote. She would never win reelection as a Democrat.

(53,193 posts)So her best option right now is to join our party and vote in lockstep with our best Democrats just to piss Trump off.

However I think she will stick with the GOP for as long as she can.

(274 posts)Not sure why she is staying in todays Republican Party?
Would be better for her to declare as an independent and avoid a primary fight.
I dont see her caucusing with Democrats. Remember her father but at least she has integrity on this issue.
And I think the Wyoming Republican Party underestimates the value of the Cheney family.

(1,980 posts)correct? She won an election, voted on by citizens. How can she be shunned, thrown out without an official impeachment? And of course it would be silly to try to impeach her because she stood up for truth.
Not sure I understand how this could be valid?

(2,022 posts)except for the very practical issue that she will get no support from the GOP, and won't have the (R) after her name on any ballot.
This is how the political parties keep their members voting the party line in Congress.

(169,746 posts)and then "3 or 4" more are supposedly going to do similar (per the OP article).
Population of Park County = ~29,000
Population of Carbon County = ~15,000
https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-counties/states/wy
And if my math is correct (if the "3 or 4" others go along), then that leaves 17 or 18 other counties who will probably not bother.

(9,067 posts)Far too many of them support the concept of overthrowing the Republic to enforce their minority will on the majority of the citizens.
They have become the party of lawlessness and insurrection.
They have become the party of the Big Lie. They tried to steal the election while chanting "Stop the Steal".
Of course the steal WAS stopped early in the morning of January 7th when Vice-President Pence and all the members of Congress who loved this country and upheld it's Constitution voted to certify the results of an open, honest, and fair election that saw Biden and Harris as the clear winners.
The fact that so many Republicans in Congress voted not to certify, and the continued actions of so many thousands of Republicans at the Federal and State levels is all the proof I need to indict the Republican Party as a Terrorist Organization that is dedicated to the overthrow of the Republic.
I'm not a supporter of Liz Cheney, but at least she takes her oath of office seriously, and is doing what she can to defend the nation against the attacks on our country by the Republican party. Of course they want to throw her out. She's a true American, regardless of her politics.

(25,409 posts)If her primary challengers split the vote, she could come out on top with relatively small support.
And if she wins the GOP primary in Wyoming, she will be a shoo-in in the general election.

(114,615 posts)I don't think Cheney has much to worry about, she's been a bedrock conservative, wrong about nearly everything for years, and that has to count for something. She'll run as an Independent, and likely be reelected. They're not all crazy in Wyoming, I've known a lot of perfectly reasonable people from there.
And after the GOP is nothing but Tea Klanners and Qbots, perhaps the rich and powerful will start teaching their heirs about the pitfalls of making too many deals with too many devils. The devils always take over.
