'Get a tall oak tree': Texas Rep. Chip Roy defends apparent pro-lynching remarks

Source: nbc

Roy doubled down on his remarks during a hearing that the way to deal with "bad guys" is "find all the rope in Texas and get a tall oak tree."

March 18, 2021, 3:14 PM CDT

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, said he had "no apologies" after making an apparent pro-lynching remark during a congressional hearing on combatting anti-Asian American violence..........................

....................

"We believe in justice. There are old sayings in Texas about find all the rope in Texas and get a tall oak tree. We take justice very seriously. And we ought to do that. Round up the bad guys. That's what we believe," he said. "My concern about this hearing is that it seems to want to venture into the policing of rhetoric in a free society, free speech, and away from the rule of law and taking out bad guys."

Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y., testified at the hearing, and got emotional when she addressed Roy and his comments at the end of her remarks, complaining that Republicans had helped incite violence against Asian Americans by using language like the "China virus" to describe the coronavirus.

"Your president and your party and your colleagues can talk about issues with any other country that you want, but you don't have to do it by putting a bull's-eye on the back of Asian Americans across this country, on our grandparents, on our kids. This hearing was to address the hurt and pain of our community, to find solutions, and we will not let you take our voice away from us," Meng said.

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif..............

Ted Lieu to Chip Roy: "You can say racist stupid stuff if you want, but I'm asking you to please stop using racist terms like kung flu, Wuhan virus or other ethnic identifiers.. I am not a virus. And when you say things like that, it hurts Asian American community."

Ted Lieu: "Whatever political points you think you're scoring by using ethnic identifiers in describing this virus, you're harming Americans who happen to be of Asian descent. So please stop doing that."

Jamie Raskin adds: "The bizarre invocation of free speech in this context is a dangerous and irrelevant distraction from the violence engulfing AAPI communities.. We've got [Asian American] constituents who have been attacked by racist fanatics, screaming about the Wu Han flu."

So they can call him out for his racism and stupidity all they want. His comments are asinine and hurtful and he meant them to be that. Asshole.

And what's with his dick nose hanging over the mask - he should be called out for that, too.
