(CNN)A 12-year-old shot at two masked intruders who broke into his grandmother's home just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, according to police in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

The intruders had demanded money from 73-year-old Linda Ellis and subsequently shot her, police said in a statement posted on the Goldsboro Police Department's Facebook page.

Police said the juvenile fired "in self-defense" at the suspects who then fled. Officers found one of the suspects, 19-year-old Khalil Herring, at an intersection near the Ellis home, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, the statement said.

"Preliminary evidence suggest(s) Khalil Herring was one of the two masked intruders and was shot during the robbery," police said.

a program to arm those over 10 years old, and to train them in the use of handguns.......

Something that will certainly earn the praise of the NRA and Gun manufacturers everywhere........

Just think of the massive numbers of kids of the 70 Million trump voters........

called for 3 year olds to carry! On video! When he was owned by Sacha Baron Cohen who told him he was promoting a “Kinderguardians” movement!

(Joe was the a-hole who shouted “You lie” at America’s first Black President during the State of the Union.)

BTW, since this 12 year old clearly knew how to use a gun and since the gun he fired was apparently legally owned, it is apparent that the laws currently in place worked just fine.

Does human life really mean so little to them?

Just to clarify, this could also say "what kind of person robs anyone, let alone an elderly person", but the attempt to kill someone too is something I cannot understand.
