Acting Defense secretary says 'no intelligence' indicating insider threat to inauguration

Source: The Hill

Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller said Monday that while law enforcement officials are vetting National Guard troops stationed in the nation's capital, authorities have "no intelligence indicating an insider threat" to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration this week.

"As is normal for military support to large security events, the Department will vet National Guardsmen who are in Washington, D.C.," Miller said in a statement."While we have no intelligence indicating an insider threat, we are leaving no stone unturned in securing the capital."

"This type of vetting often takes place by law enforcement for significant security events. However, in this case the scope of military participation is unique," Miller continued.

The Associated Press reported on Sunday that concerns of insider threats prompted the FBI to vet National Guard troops stationed in D.C. to increase security around the inauguration. Some 25,000 National Guard members are going to be in the District on and around the inauguration on Wednesday.

And many of the rank and file DoD employees feel the same. It will be very nice to have adult leadership again, something we've not had since Mattis' resignation.

if you read it literally, as in - there is no intelligence indicating a threat, if Trump has removed anyone that is intelligent from room, then yeah, how COULD there be any intelligence to point at any threat of any kind?

I hope this inauguration goes on without incident, but after an insurrection incited by a sitting president, I'm cautiously optimistic.

They should act on intelligence, not advertise it.

This guy needs to be vetted himself.

He's like Bill Barr in that he could swear with a straight face there was no evidence of Russian penetration of US government and National Security computers and systems. I can't say I enough know enough about him to detail his likely perjuries but he is the kind of bad actor the Russians love to cultivate even at 2 or 3 removes.

... for the inauguration. This notice was from January 14th.

"Soldiers and Airmen with the South Dakota National Guard and Air Guard are being called up for potential deployment to Washington, D.C.

The South Dakota Broadcasters Association has confirmed than an unknown number of guard personnel are being assembled into a military Task Force, but the reason hasn’t been publicly released.

KELOLAND News continue following this story as more information becomes available."

https://www.keloland.com/news/local-news/south-dakota-national-guard-task-force-created/

850 National Guard members from Minnesota, and 250 from Iowa have been sent or are on their way to DC to help on the 20th. No updates on South Dakota National Guard other than they have been notified they COULD potentially be called up.
