Video shows fatal shooting of Ashli Babbitt in the Capitol
Source: Washington Post
Babbitt and others were attempting to breach a barricaded door inside the Capitol building on Wednesday afternoon, angrily demanding that three U.S. Capitol Police officers who were guarding the door step aside, one of the clips shows. The officers moved away as colleagues in tactical gear arrived behind the rioters, according to the clip and other video posted online.
Roughly 35 seconds after the officers moved away, as she climbed up toward a broken section of the unguarded door, Babbitt was shot by an officer on the other side.
Babbitt, a 35-year-old California native, and more than a dozen others appeared to be trying to get into the Speakers Lobby, a hallway that would have given them access to the House of Representatives chamber, according to a Post analysis of video footage and plans of the Capitol.

(96,882 posts)There were other clips circulating yesterday. This has a lot more detail of where the gunshot came from and who was behind the door (members of Congress included).

(102,808 posts)It does show how she was shot and instantly neutralized though. Do terrorist shit, get the terrorist's reward.

(102,808 posts)Once they were out of sight, the door cops moved. The one who shot that horrid individual was doing his job, preventing anyone from getting past the doors.

(114,616 posts)Dead cops won't do anyone much good, so they pulled off to the side once the room had been evacuated.
It was a reasonable move.
I don't know who shot that loudmouthed twit, it didn't sound like a round from the Big Ugly Gun the Tactical guy was carrying. It will be interesting when ballistics studies are released, if they are.

(39,086 posts)you can see the recoil from the gun.

(114,616 posts)The one shooting the video kept focusing on the cop with the rifle, who didn't look like he'd pointed it at anyone.

(14,728 posts)If the police on the House chamber side of the barricade had to use suppressive fire to keep the rioters out, they would have been in danger of being hit.

(20,591 posts)coming up the stairwell that's out of view in this clip. The officers at the door should NOT have left their post until relieved though. That's the door that enters into the House Chambers, and past that these people would have had access to House Representatives. Like they always say to those arrested at BLM protests, "Comply and you won't be harmed or arrested". She was the first one coming through the broken window and didn't comply.

(60,320 posts)She had retweeted a tweet about arresting Pence and trying him for treason.
Rioters had set up a gallows outside with a functioning noose. They were serious. It seems the right course of action to have shot her.

(29,035 posts)if more of them had shown up.. Imagine a hundred thousand of these psychos. They would have been doing executions while trump and family yukked it up down the street.
They were dead serious.

(18,402 posts)with no sound. The clip of this incident (from a different angle) that replayed hundreds of times on Wednesday and Thursday had piqued my husbands interest. He kept asking what was happening in the lower right as the doors were being breached. It looked like someone went down at the right edge, and then the camera panned and people moved toward that spot. But no sound.
Then last night we had on Amanpour & Co., and the BBC played that clip (and others), but with SOUND. You could hear the shot and immediately knew that this was the scene of the womans death. They also identified the scene as the doors to the Speakers Lobby.
It never occurred to me that almost all the clips of the insurrection weve been viewing on MSNBC and CNN have been soundless sidebars while talking heads yammer. In the clips we saw on Amanpor you could hear all the shouting and ugly slogans and chaos, and believe me, it was much more chilling.

(13,014 posts)The officer's job was to protect the folks inside that door. These insurrectionists were in the process of breaking down the door.
The lives of Congress members, staff and others were being threatened. There was no other rational choice.
I can work up no sympathy for a secessionist attempting to break into a locked door protecting Congress members, etc.

(14,728 posts)But, by the time of the shooting, I'd bet that the cops protecting the House chamber had been in radio contact and knew that some of those scumbags were carrying weapons. They may have even known about the pipe bombs.
Knowing that, and seeing the rioters try to get past the barricade, made deadly force necessary.
Even then, it was dispensed judiciously. Once she was shot, the rest of those "patriots" thought twice about what they were trying to do and backed the fuck off.

And the rest of the crowd of cowards moved pretty quick too when the the other idiot got shot.

(71,936 posts)... pointing pistols and shouted warnings from the other side of the door she broke through didn't stop her. A bullet did stop her.
She had multiple opportunities to come to her senses.
