President Says U.S. Must Live With Virus, Like Flu: Trump Update

Source: Bloomberg

President Donald Trump again likened the novel coronavirus to the less dangerous seasonal flu, urging Americans to learn to live with Covid-19 while overstating the number of annual deaths from flu.

Trump resumed his tweets Tuesday morning with a comparison between the novel coronavirus and the regular influenza outbreaks that typically start hitting the northern hemisphere in the fall.

After telling Americans not to fear the virus or let it “dominate” them, Trump noted that the nation doesn’t shut down because of the flu.

The U.S. hasn’t lost 100,000 people to the flu in a single season in more than a decade, according to estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Comparisons between deaths caused by coronavirus and the flu aren’t simple because of differences in the way they’re counted, but there is broad agreement among epidemiologists that the coronavirus is substantially more dangerous.

Their per capita numbers are much smaller than ours. The proof that the mask mandate and social distancing works is in the Texas numbers, which have gone down after Abbott mandated masks in public and put restrictions on the number of people in bars and restaurants.

I think we can live with the virus but ONLY if everyone takes precautions. It’s the refusniks who are having parties and not wearing masks who are the virus spreaders.

What a coward. He didn't even try.

Typical, his administration lets hurricanes and wild fires destroy communities, plus whole states and territories. He surrenders to everything, he's a weak leech.

At this point, herd mentality will kill over 3,000,000 and not even begin to work.

Same people who think it's safer to be in a group of 100 with 1 death versus being in a group of 10,000 with 10 deaths. You're 10 times more likely to die in the later group than the former (by their math), when it's actually the other way around.

We must all learn to DIE with COVID-19.

I have seen the face of death incarnate now: DJT.

He wants to take us all with him into the bloody, foaming jaws of perdition with him. He stands at the door of death, opens it wide and starts to shove the country in now.

He won't take his defeat well, we know that.

There is no--"living with it". The dead and those who are impaired for the rest of their lives, are not "living with it," very well. Will we ever find out that trump has long term effects? No.

He thinks he's more of a stud now than ever. Mr. Invincible. He could have a sudden, more severe relapse, like many others have done.

We can vote trump and all republicans out of office, and follow Biden's plan against the virus. trumps plan has failed causing 211,00 0 + and many more to die, and destroying our economy. The choice is an easy one, trump is a fraud, a con man causing crisis after crisis from negligence and incompetence, and his unstable mental state. Biden is clearly the only real choice.

But HE wont "learn" anything.
The rest of us, who listen to people of science, will "live with it" a lot better than the stupid deniers. By wearing masks and such.
Since airports & flights have REQUIRED masks, i have heard of NO spreader events that have been shown to have originated from an airline flight. Not like early on, BEFORE masks were required.
Anecdotal, yes, but still pretty strong evidence it seems.
