White House releases new 'rules' allowing officials to ban reporters who ask more than one question

Source: Raw Story

The White House press office on Monday released new “rules” that they claim will allow the suspension of press credentials if a reporter refuses to yield the floor after asking only one question.

Under the new guidelines, reporters must surrender the microphone after asking one question. A second question may be allowed at the discretion of the president or White House staff.

It was not immediately clear if the rules will hold up to constitutional scrutiny.

And there is an urban legend that it began when Teddy Roosevelt saw reporters standing in the rain to get stories that he invited them inside to talk to staff.

So the Freedom of the Press isn't dead. We just have a POTUS throwing a temper tantrum, and yes, legal challenges will happen.

Trump's problem, like most Republicans who think his way, is he thinks he can run America like a private company (or his horrible reality TV show) and that's not how public government works.

By the time this asshole is out of office, we will have seen why private industry experience is totally incompatible with public service.

Because it would not be a 'second question'.

If SHS reprimands a reporter for it they could insist they are still only asking one question (which has not been answered yet). And if thrown out they could win that argument.

Reporter 1: "When are you going to release your taxes?"
Trump: "Under audit, blah blah blah, next question"
Reporter 2: You can release them even if under audit, so why don't you?
Trump: "Next reporter"
Reporter 3: "When are you going to release your taxes?"

They should all get together and coordinate "question of the day" and keep asking it. Will drive the orange menace even crazier.

but utter as many declarative sentences as they like.

Second, this absolutely WILL be applied inconsistently, and the minute is gets applied the first time there will already be a backlog of reporters who "broke the rules" without consequence, thus providing the evidence needed for a lawsuit.

These idiots are not going to give this up because it is a useful distraction. The media loves talking about itself.

That's how I read it. ... and if you dare ask a followup without permission we'll revoke your press pass.

I'll bet that's how it will be implemented. I suspect another legal action coming soon.
