WASHINGTON Newly released documents about a now-defunct business owned by Donald Trump reveal strategies for enticing people to enroll in real estate seminars even if they couldnt afford it, opening the presumptive Republican nominee up to fresh criticism from Hillary Clinton that he took advantage of vulnerable Americans.
Trump University was a fraudulent scheme used to prey upon those who could least afford it, Clintons campaign wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning.
Clinton aides suggested the likely Democratic nominee would use Trump University as part of a broader effort to cast Trump as a callous businessman who promises Americans ways to get ahead, but is only concerned with enriching himself. As part of that effort, Clinton has previously hammered Trump for appearing to cheer for the collapse of the U.S. housing market and for failing to make good on pledges to donate to veterans until he was pressured to follow through by the media.
He is pitching voters that he can help improve their lives, but it is all a scam whose only goal is to promote Trump, Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said.
Trump University is the target of two lawsuits in San Diego and one in New York that accuse the business of fleecing students with unfulfilled promises to teach secrets of success in real estate. Plaintiffs contend that Trump University gave seminars and classes across the country that were like infomercials, constantly pressuring customers to buy more and, in the end, failing to deliver......................

(13,877 posts)But I guess...I fibbed/flubbed/misspoke is better than a real juicy lawsuit.
Also, her SIL/daughter? lost a whole lot of investor money as a hedge fund manager who attracted clients to "invest" on Greek austerity, of all things. A shady story and shadier in-laws...apples falling from the tree level.
Everyone...I mean everyone...has skeletons, especially when you bring family in. It is my theory that is why we can't get decent candidates to run as public servants. It becomes a public hanging in the square before all is said and done and only a certain type can stomach that.

Yeah all that matters are some emails in an antiquated system.
Who cares about Trump ripping off students by tens of thousands in tuition fees from them, employing unqualified instructors?
Certainly not fanatical Bernie supporters. All they care about is trashing Hillary because their candidate has been crushed like a grape in the ;primaries.
A sales manager for Trump University, Ronald Schnackenberg, recounted how he was reprimanded for not pushing a financially struggling couple hard enough to sign up for a $35,000 real estate class, despite his conclusion that it would endanger their economic future. He watched with disgust, he said, as a fellow Trump University salesman persuaded the couple to purchase the class anyway.
Mr. Schnackenberg wrote in his testimony, and that it preyed upon the elderly and uneducated to separate them from their money.
Corrine Sommer, an event manager, recounted how colleagues encouraged students to open up as many credit cards as possible to pay for classes that many of them could not afford."

(45,850 posts)On the campaign trail, Hillary Clinton has pledged to crack down on for-profit colleges, saying she would go further than the Obama administrations high-profile efforts to rein in problems in the industry over the past seven years.
But the Democratic front-runner also has an array of connections to the for-profit education industry that some observers have said raise questions about the type of influence for-profit colleges would enjoy under a Clinton administration.
Most prominent are Clintons ties to the global for-profit education behemoth Laureate Education, for whom her husband, Bill Clinton, worked directly, earning $16.5 million between 2010 and 2014. The former president stepped down from his post as honorary chancellor for Laureate International Universities last year, after making a handful of trips to various countries on behalf of the company.
Laureate International Universities continues to have a partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative, part of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation. Laureate also did business with a consulting firm, Teneo Holdings, that was started by and employed an array of Clinton associates, Politico reported last week.
Hillary Clinton herself gave a speech in 2014 for which she was paid $225,000 by Academic Partnerships, a for-profit education company that works with traditional colleges to help them create online degree programs, according to her personal financial disclosures.
