Related: About this forumSeven-person juries go into effect today.
This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the Announcements group).
By popular demand, we have increased the number of jurors to evaluate community standards alerts from six to seven.
This is a fairly large technical change, and there are likely to be a few glitches. If you encounter any issues that you think the DU Admins need to be aware of, please post them in this thread.
Thank you for your understanding.

I'd love to encourage people to sign your jury votes it makes you take a momement and really think about the consequences of your vote. Happy jury duty everyone!

(11,175 posts)I usually read a lot of the other posts in the thread, to get the context, and I usually find when I get the results that my comment was the longest.
The result is that I very often get an email about the results as soon as I submit my vote. I was the one holding up the parade.
Apologies in advance if I do that to you. Cultivate patience.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Whining about DU's technical glitches.
j/k Want to see if there are any obvious glitches right off the bat and what better post to send to a 7 member jury than Skinner's announcement thread.

(36,392 posts)will this effect the new jury system?
I think my L:H ratio over time is 20:1 or so
whopis01
(3,725 posts)If you were to always vote "Leave", that means votes will only be hidden if 4 of the remaining jurors vote "Hide". In the old jury system that would be 80% of them (4 out of 5). However in the new system it will only be 66.7% (4 out of 6).
So I guess, in a sense, you will be turning the new juries that you participate in into something akin to the old juries which you did not participate in. So perhaps you could consider that being an effect upon the system.

(26,449 posts)In the second case it is totally correct to say "the new jury system will effect juries on which you serve", but probably doesn't quite mean what the poster thought it did.

(509 posts)No system is perfect (given the injection of people with their complex psychologies) into theoretical constructs/systems governing the adjudication of disputed tone and content, but this certainly seems like a sensible tweak to the existing system: ties are eliminated and the "magic number" of 7 seems just right (neither too large nor too small to render fast, fair verdicts most of the time).

Just kidding. I appreciate the efforts you and other Admins go to, to make this a great message board. And I believe it is.

(19,612 posts)I hope it helps settle things down a bit. I also hope I don't end up with hidden posts now! Maybe we'll all try and be a little nicer now that a hide will be easier to get? Hey, a girl can dream...right?
Seriously, thanks for all the hard work coding this into reality. I know it doesn't happen on its own and appreciate the effort.

What remains to be seen is whether it is a fluke or a trend.
