Related: About this forumWe are now accepting new volunteers to serve on the MIR Team from June - September 2021
This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the Announcements group).
Volunteers who wish to help keep DU running smoothly should consider joining the Malicious Intruder Removal Team (MIR Team). The role of MIR Team members is simple: they are empowered to revoke the posting privileges of people who show up at DU with the intent to disrupt.
Members of the MIR Team are provided with tools to delete spam posted by people who have had their posting privileges revoked, but they are NOT responsible for removing community standards violations, locking threads, or dealing with violations of DU's Terms of Service wherever they may occur.
If you are a DU member with at least six months of membership, at least 1,000 posts, and proof of identity (ie. you are a Star member) then you can apply to be a member of the MIR Team.
How do I apply?
Simple: just post in this thread to let us know that you'd like to give it a try, and you could be selected by the Admins. There is no application form to fill out, and no confidentiality agreement to sign. MIR Team members do not have access to any privileged information about other DU members.
We plan to introduce the new MIR Team on Thursday June 17.
NOTE: If you are a current MIR Team member who is eligible to serve next term, please do not state your intentions in this thread. Instead, use the thread in the MIRT forum. Thanks.

(3,135 posts)If people's privledges have been revoked, how are they posting?
Also, I only sign in for a short time most days lately, as real life matters are taking more of my time-this sounds like something for someone who is logged in maybe a couple of hours a day? Thanks for your help

(32,997 posts)you contribute what time you can. It is a very interesting experience.
If a member is Flagged for Review or Posting Privileges Revoked they don't have the ability to post anymore. Arre you seeing otherwise?

(7,715 posts)I've served two tours of duty on MIRT, including during the November 2020 election. The fellow DUers I worked with were fabulous and an extraordinarily committed bunch, especially with the concerns related to the election. We were a real team.
EarlG et al are really supportive, and it's rewarding to help a community that, without a doubt, helped many of us get through the worst of the last 4 years.
There is no schedule and no time commitments. You participate when you can, and nobody expects otherwise. A lot of it is spam, but you would really be surprised at what might happen.
My fellow MIRTers were unbelievably supportive and showed me the ropes. Many of these folks would put Sherlock Holmes to shame with their detective-like ability to spot issues that I never would have seen until I began to learn the ropes. I'm still a newbie, but every now and then, based on the training imparted by fellow MIRTers, I too began to spot an early issue every now and then.
It's nice to give back to a really great forum like DU.
