This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the Announcements group).
When we we made the switch to DU3, we incorporated the list of Greatest threads into the Latest page. After living with it for a while we've decided that the Greatest threads should have their own page just as they did on DU2.
The new Greatest page is now no longer available as a button on the Latest page -- instead it has its own tab among the navigation tabs at the top of the page. The Greatest page should look very familiar to those of you who used it frequently on DU2.
Here's a direct link:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=greatest_threads
Note that the old "Top Tens" lists are not included -- they are now mostly irrelevant since the Unrecommend function no longer exists.
Also note that there is a mobile version of the Greatest page for those of you browsing DU on mobile devices.
Thanks for your patience while we continue to work on and improve our new DU software.

(20,885 posts)DU is really shaping up nicely. Congratulations!
How about and buttons, so we can do CO2 and mc2 easily?
Then there's lists...
But thanks for all you do.

(22,480 posts)and am thrilled it is back with just one. The Greatest Page is an integral part of DU to me.
As far as I'm concerned, once you give us the polls, we will be pretty much all set with DU3.

(45,358 posts)is anyone else noticing the left column (sorted by time) taking fairly long to load? The first time I clicked the tab it took about 10 seconds to load. The right column loaded instantaneously.
Just tried again and it took about 45 seconds to load.
EarlG
(22,540 posts)The reason the page takes so long to load is simply because there is so much content on it. This was also an issue on DU2.
The easiest way to fix this would be to reduce the number of threads that appear on the page by increasing the rec threshold. If threads needed, say, 10 recs to get on the Greatest page, that would obviously reduce the number of threads on the page.
We didn't do this straight away because people are used to the threshold set at 5 recs. But we may increase the threshold in future if the page is too unwieldy.

(45,358 posts)I can't see myself ever needing more than three or four pages worth of 'greatest' posts.

(7,237 posts)Even though I know everyone is used to 5 recs sending a post to the Greatest page.
And THANK YOU for recreated the Greatest page!!! I missed it sooooo much!
Sorry, something odd just happened with my posts in this thread, I ended up with an accidental double post.

(8,809 posts)IMO, you should, if you don't want DU to become irrelevant.
Frankly, DU is just a shadow of its former self and hardly readable at this point; all of it having to do with administrative choices (vs. dynamics/factors within the posting community).
ETA: definitely the right decision to bring back the Greatest Page with its DU2 format though, thank you for that!!
(DU instantly feels better all of a sudden! )

(26,449 posts)Can we get them on the Greatest tab? Or just leave the greatest button on the latest tab?
Pretty please?

(37,540 posts)Allowing longer timeframes gives an even better list of greatest page posts.
EarlG
(22,540 posts)Greatest has its own standalone page, but we just put the button back on the Latest page also. It is the original "Most rec'd" button. So if you wish, you can now you can sort the Latest page by most recommended and use the filters, just as you could before.

(2,884 posts)and will the 'greatest threads' page be the same as this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=latest_threads&mode=latest&sort1=recs
but just organized different?
Or is that only the greatest from the latest?
but then, is the latest thread link a way of looking at all forums?
maybe I missed some "instructions in navigating DU" page...
(I had gotten used to the newer posts being on the right, guess it helps train the brain to learn new tricks)

(28,941 posts)Another step toward bringing me back into the fold. Though I miss the unrec button - allowing "yea" votes only seems so undemocratic. But still. I love me some GP and it's good to see it return to the respectful position at the top it deserves. Thanks, EarlG.

(24,738 posts)For reasons I'm not sure I fully understand, this arrangement just seems to work better.
Thank you, too, for getting rid of unrecs, and sticking by that. Although even I often miss the negative thrill of unrec'ing, I remain convinced that the function was exploited and/or abused, and too often resulted in DU'er's missing out on seeing many worthy posts.
