Contention over Houston ballot misprint, election certification highlights council meeting

HOUSTON, Alaska (KTUU) - The City Council of Houston had a special meeting Monday night where they discussed a recount and ballot misprints.

The certification of the city election was postponed from last week’s meeting after candidate Callie Courtney, who was running as the write-in candidate for Seat G, asked for the city to hold a recount.

According to a letter from city attorney’s, Courtney decided to withdraw the ask for a recount.

However, a bigger issue was brought up where there was a misprint on the ballots themselves. The ballot for the City of Houston for City Council Seat G listed the term as three years, ending in October 2027. It was incorrect as the race was for a one-year term, ending in October 2025.
