Request re Raif Badawi in Saudi Arabia

Last edited Sun May 10, 2015, 03:15 AM - Edit history (1)

Thursday, May 7, is world wide protest/demonstration day for Raif Badawi, the blogger in Saudi Arabia with the sentence for 1000 lashings. He received the first 50 strokes. Protests have kept Saudi Arabia from continuing the punishments, but he is still under the sentence. On Thursday protests/demonstrations are planned at embassies and consulates around the world. Please please email the embassy in D.C. and ask them to lift the sentence. info@saudiembassy.net Thanks, lots.

I sent the following email

To whom it may concern

Raif Badawi, a blogger in Saudi Arabia, is under a sentence for 1000 lashings. He has already received the first 50 strokes, which has set back the perception of Saudi Arabia as a country which other governments would like to start to do business or to increase existing business relations. Additionally, such a perception discourages visits for recreation as well as business meetings at the country's premier locations..

Many in the modern era regard lashings as inhumane.

As a fellow human being, I am begging Saudi Arabia to lift this sentence and to begin a reasoned process of reforming court sentences to exclude physical punishment.
