Last Weekends Campaign...VOLUNTEER to call, write, help out...

https://thelastweekends.org/

This year, voting isn't enough.
It's more important than ever to help as many folks as possible turn out to vote—early, by mail, or on November 3. We're making it easy to virtually connect with voters in key states in order to swing the Senate, beat Trump, and turn state legislatures blue. During the Last Weekends of the 2020 election, don't just vote—volunteer!

In 2018, volunteers connected with voters in key Swing Districts across the country, and helped flip the U.S. House. In 2020, the stakes are even higher.

They do all their training through Zoom meetings now. I can't use it on my Windows 7 desktop computer since it has no camera or microphone. So I got out the Windows 10 laptop we just got back (my husband lent it to a friend while his computer was being repaired) - can't get it on there since the f^*king friend loaded his Windows account on MY laptop. I can't get my Windows account re-installed since all my passwords and login information is still packed away.

I tried on the second laptop I bought while in England when the other one bricked during an update - oops - I changed the password after we got back so the one I used on it is no longer valid. Oh - and the same for all my email passwords so I can't get a password reset on either of those computers.

So I tried Zoom on my cellphone - no go. Apparently at some point somewhere in the Settings I disabled the microphone and camera. Even though I went into the Apps settings and gave permission for Zoom to use them, there is some global setting I couldn't find to get them turned back on.

After four hours of trying to get Zoom to work I gave up. Now I hate Zoom since everybody is using it and it won't work for me.

Tech and I never got along. I believe it was due to my school, where I worked, had Apple computers and my mom gave me her old one that was Microsoft. No one showed my how to go from one to the other and I had to learn myself through trial and error. After that lots of heavy drinking was always needed after attempting to do anything on any computer. You are light years ahead of me!

I was supposed to have a Zoom meeting two months ago and I laughed out loud. I won't even attempt it. I am trying to maintain my sanity these days and that would have me in a straitjacket in 5 minutes. Besides, I covered all the cameras on my 3 devices with tape. I read that even Fuckerberg does that since they aren't safe.

But at 68, I am running out of the willingness to spend my time dealing with new tech that I have never needed or wanted. My needlework group has been having Zoom meetings and I begged off due to the laptops being packed away. I do miss talking with the other members, but not with some new app that is a PITA to set up.

I like the security of my home built desktop, with no mike or camera. Years ago an acquaintance suggested Skyping and I liked having the excuse why I couldn't.
