Regarding Impeachment

“......(Y)ou may represent only a minority in the community. And therefore you might have a tendency to classify (yourselves) as something insignificant But just as the fuse is the smallest part or the smallest piece in the powder keg, it is yet that little fuse that ignites the entire powder keg. “
-- Malcolm X, April 8, 1964

I think it might be beneficial to have an “Impeach Trump Now” sub-group of activists on DU. There are clearly a lot of people on this forum who favor impeachment. There are also people who either are not sure, or who believe that it would be better to focus on winning in 2020. I believe that we can and should respect that range of opinions.

Among the “Impeach Now” people, there is also a wide range of individuals, each with their own talents and abilities. And that offers great potential. A semi-coordinated grass roots level of activism can make a difference.

If you might be interested, we could get started. I know people have been doing things as individuals, which is great. But I think we could benefit from doing more coordination.

Peace,
H2O Man

I want to do something but I can use a little direction.

I like the idea of coordinating with DUers.

As I said today in another DU post:

We shouldn't piddle around and wait for Mommy or Daddy pollster to tell us it's time to impeach. We certainly don't wait for Republicans.

THIS is what a leader does (and it's just as you said about lighting a fuse):

A leader should impress the nation with deep thinking and integrity. Begin the impeachment process, and that gnawing sense that the Democrats have been right all along will explode into focus.

Build it and they will come.

Be leaders.

To do anything before we have his tax returns, bank records or details about insurance fraud makes zero sense.

Trump has been accused of insurance fraud by a witness before Congress.

A lot of ordinary folks don't understand Russian influence on policy or trade but they understand fraud.

A month ago I was in a convenience store in a county that Trump took by 70/30. On either side of the store were gun shops and every car in the parking lot sported NRA stickers. The city has a small military base nd two large Border Patrol stations.

I got to the front of the line and there was an African American women in her 30s running the till. The TV was blasting a story about Trump blocking release his tax returns.

I wanted to signal solidarity to the cashier and said in a loud voice, "I want to see his tax returns". She responded "Damn straight".

What happened next was illuminating. Each person voiced agreement, and I know that some were Trumpers. "What is he hiding?" , and so on.

The economic crimes he committed are much easier for the average Joe to identify with

Then there is this; DOJ may have a policy against indicting a President but a NY grand jury doesn't.

We absolutely have to wait until the data on the financial crimes are in hand, however we should be building pressure every day.

We must impeach without fear of what the Senate will do BUT we should only impeach when we are loaded to the gills with as much ammunition as possible. I believe that is Pelosi's and Schiff's strategy.

+1000

that situation probably happens more often in more places than most of us realize, as momentum always begins with a slow but sure rate, and eventually becomes overwhelming...

thanks for recounting, one of the more positive insights I've read today 👍🏻

Open an impeachment inquiry.

Might make it easier to get the tax returns and even the unredacted Mueller report.

If the Democrats start impeachment investigations or hearings, aren’t they entitled to get his financial statements, tax returns, etc, and also get the unredacted Mueller report? I had thought Trump can’t hold back information requested by Democrats if it’s for an impeachment investigation.
The worst thing is to do nothing. People are already disengaged from the political process, to do nothing makes Democrats look weak and ineffective. It reinforces the perception that it doesn’t matter who gets elected, they’re all the same.
