https://www.yahoo.com/travel/the-best-countries-to-be-an-expat-99411768717.htmlIs it all that adaptation on the Galapagos Islands that help people adjust so well to Ecuador? Probably not, but the country won top marks in a comprehensive survey that ranks the best and worst countries in the world for expatriates.
The 2014 Expat Insider, run by InterNations, based its report on responses from 14,000 expats in 160 countries. Categories included quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, family life, personal finance, and overall satisfaction living abroad.
Among 61 countries that received enough responses to qualify in the rankings, the U.S. was named the fifth most favorite country among expats, and scored as follows: 16th in general quality of life, fourth in ease of settling in, 20th in working abroad, 12th in family life, 31st in personal finance, and 22nd in cost of living. The top three reasons for moving to the U.S. were for study (16 percent), work (16 percent), and love (12 percent).

(22,000 posts)2. I was shocked the country I live in
South Korea was 13th. The Asia-Pacific had 9 in the top 25. Vietnam was 26th and my guess is next year it will move up. I have a friend who lives there and it is incredibly popular for Expats.
I'm not at all shocked that European countries rank high. Of course you'd have to have a good job to afford to live there. LOL

(119 posts)4. 13th ain't bad.
I would rank it higher, but I'm biased. I love visiting Japan, and I lived for a year in Thailand. Each place has its pros and cons, but I have zero motivation to leave Korea.

I think once you get so use to living in one country it is hard to get use to another (at least outside your own country). I ended up hating it. It made me appreciate Korea more when I came back, I'll tell you that.
