Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley: BP legislation in play during special session

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley said Friday he will give the Legislature the chance to address the allocation of the state's BP settlement during next week's special session.

The move could potentially set up another potential showdown between northern and southern Alabama lawmakers.

Bentley, speaking to reporters after touring the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, said the proposal he will ask state lawmakers to consider will be a "general" plan which can be considered by the House and Senate.

"If the Legislature wants to bring it up and solve that, I'm for it," said Bentley, adding that BP and his proposal for a statewide lottery are likely the only two items that will be brought up during the special session starting Monday.
