Tuscaloosa mayoral candidates outline visions ahead of election
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — As Tuscaloosa residents prepare to head to the polls to elect their next mayor, incumbent Walt Maddox and challenger Denson Ferrell II have shared their visions for the city's future.
Maddox emphasized the importance of building on past successes. "Well anytime you want to look at or try to predict the future success your best indicator is to look at past success," he said. "Look at what we have done over the last 20 years, you don't need me to give a long resume just look around, you can see progress throughout the city, and what makes that progress to me so tremendous is that we have done it through a great recession."
Ferrell, on the other hand, focused on accountability and transparency. "Because I am going to hold people accountable, I am going to tell the truth, I am going to be very transparent. Bottom line it's a lack of people being honest in politics today," he said.
Both candidates also discussed their plans for further growth and development in Tuscaloosa. Maddox highlighted the importance of partnerships with local institutions. "The thing we will do is keep doing what has worked and for us that is close partnerships with Mercedes and the University of Alabama, working with them to make certain that they continue to grow," he said. "Their success is Tuscaloosa's success, they are the sun of our solar system, economic solar system."
