Central Alabama Community College pays $100,000 in tax penalties

A state audit report released this morning showed Central Alabama Community College paid $100,914 in penalties and interest last fiscal year for failure to properly pay employees' taxes in previous years.

The report from the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts said the college failed to file and remit payments from employee payroll withholdings in a timely manner during periods in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

In a response included in the audit report, the college said the problem was corrected last year and measures have been put in place to make sure taxes are reported and paid on a timely basis.

Central Alabama Community College has campuses in Alexander City and Childersburg and a center in Talladega. The college has about 1,765 students, according to the audit report.

to make up for the poor fiscal management. It appears that they are addressing the issue because that is a serious penalty for a college of that size. Were you aware that they were dealing with this problem?
