why is MSNBC giving this guy a national exposure - when his poll numbers are down in the single digits in NJ?

Why are they legitimizing him?

Plus, I find nothing wrong with interviewing conservatives. My fragile ears and psyche can handle it, and so can yours. A real news station MUST do that.
