(21,066 posts)1. I worked GOTV in September and early October
for the Democratic party in PA. We were re-registering Democrats in working class and working poor neighborhoods who might have been dropped from the rolls due to inactivity and devising election day voting plans to help get them to the polls. I sat at their kitchen tables, and some of what I heard broke my heart.
I never appreciated what a hardship it can be for some people to actually get the time off and travel to a polling place (often by public transportation) to cast a vote. I wonder how many of the people I spoke to never made it to the election booth because the ability to do so is a privilege that's foreclosed to them.
