Places to move to survive a Trump Presidency

I am good friends with a young Muslim couple from the Middle East with elderly parents (all citizens). The live in small town Texas and are now seriously considering moving somewhere else in the US to get away from the inevitable racism and bigotry that is going to come their way. They are also worried about their parents, who are suffering from a host of ailments and are highly dependent on their Medicare/Medicaid. I told them that there was no point in moving as it'll all be the same and am now wondering if I gave them the right advice? Thought I would get DU to weigh in

Specifically, if they have financial challenges, south-west Seattle (part of it is nicknamed "Rat city) where small houses with big yards can still be found for under $300,000, and rent isn't quite as outrageous as elsewhere. It's my neighborhood, it's very diverse "working class". There are many Muslims who live here.

I know Detroit has a large Muslim population, but Michigan might be tense right now. San Francisco, Seattle, Portland are good possibilities.

Though the conservative east side of the state. I am grateful to live in this progressive state. We have two Democratic women Senators and a Democratic governor, and all the progressive
policies that inhere in this.

Our daughter recently moved to Bozeman, Montana
and we intend some day to follow her. Interesting contrast because her city and county are blue, but the state is red. I think one should think very carefully about these choices right now. Can make a huge difference in quality of life in ways I don't recall mattering previously. Just reflects our polarization, I guess.

Hell even places like Lewis and Thurston and Snohomish counties are very red, very conservative and not as welcoming to minority population as they should be. Some places--not at all.

Even south King County and Pierce!

It's that rural / urban divide. We need to overcome it.

I and a few friends have been the sole progressive voice here (Chelan County) for years. I commingled a bunch with the Unitarian Fellowship for years, whose member's tend to infiltrate the 1) Dem party; 2) environmental organizations; etc. etc.

It's tough, but it's OK.
