it's the other way around, he exhales more polluted bile than there is air in the room. He's so proficient at it that there is no air left in the room, thus his gasping as he suffocates on his own exhaust.

That's not a healthy man. That's a man who tells his doctors how he's doing, and doesn't have time for all that health nonsense.
My paternal Grandfather and Great-grandfather were just like that. Vain and cock-sure. And dead at a much earlier age than they needed to be.
