Ted Cruz Failed to Report a Second Campaign Loan in 2012

By MIKE McINTIREJAN. 15, 2016

The Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, already facing scrutiny for not disclosing a Goldman Sachs loan he used for his 2012 Senate campaign, also failed to disclose a second loan, from Citibank, for the same race, according to a letter he sent Thursday to federal election officials.

The one-page letter said that the “underlying source” of money for a series of personal loans Mr. Cruz made to his Senate campaign in Texas included both bank loans, which totaled as much as $1 million. Both loans were “inadvertently omitted” from the required filings, the letter said. Previously, Mr. Cruz has only acknowledged using the loan from Goldman for his campaign.

The latest disclosure casts further doubt on his oft-stated story of having liquidated his entire family savings of slightly more than $1 million to fuel a come-from-behind win in the Republican primary. The tale has become part of a campaign narrative of a populist, scrappy Mr. Cruz putting everything on the line to overcome a wealthy establishment opponent.

His letter to the Federal Election Commission came after The New York Times reported that at least some of the “personal funds” Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, put into his campaign actually came from a large loan from Goldman Sachs, where Mrs. Cruz works. The loan, for up to $500,000, was secured by holdings in a brokerage account at Goldman Sachs. The Cruz campaign called the failure to disclose the loan an honest mistake and said it would contact the election commission for guidance on how to amend its filings.

Nobody else does either, apparently, except Goldman Sachs, Citibank, and whoever else is revealed Monday, of course.

Nothing will come of this. These guys brush off stuff like this, as if it's particles of snow.

Whenever I see a story on DU about some earth shattering corruption by a Republican, and how it's going to be their undoing, it ends up going nowhere.

He's just another politician, doing what many politicians do, bending the laws and being corrupt.

Should he get the nomination, any crimes he may have committed will be explained away, and he will come to some arrangement so it does not hurt his campaign.

Sounds like he has a big city - New York attitude when it comes to pulling loans from big banks and failing to report it. Trump should be proud of this little shit for acting like a savvy bidniz man. Rubio will enjoy feasting on this scandal the way a chihuahua likes to hump a footstool in the living room. Jeb won't even know what to do with this, as there' nothing wrong as far as he can see. Carson will, oh who the hell cares? He's done like a forgotten hot-dog on the barbecue. The others don't even count anymore except for the fact that they keep showing up at the kiddies' table. Maybe Cartman, er Christie will gnaw on Cruz for a while, but he's got to knock down Trump to stay in, and kicking Joffrey in the nuts will only help out "shut the fuck up" Donny boy.

But the best part is it will be fun to watch even if it only lasts a minute or two.

Anybody coulda made the same mistake.

Cruz is clearly squirming. If he reported the Citicorp loan after the original article said only the Goldman loan was campaign related. He's trying to head trouble off at the pass. This is only going to get better.
