and is all ready to inherit the job.

It's time to get the county clerk's office away from this particular family, I think.

9. The son is also the only one that would refuse to issue licenses to gay couples

The judge asked the 6 office staffers if they would issue licenses and the son was the only one that said he wouldn't.

2. The salary is set by state statute.

Since the county clerk is a state government constitutional office, the state sets the pay based on population size of the county.

4. Yes, and it makes me sick that she makes that much money in

Podunk, KY. That is a huge salary for that area and I am sure she does absolutely nothing to earn it. If she lived in a major coastal city or Chicago or somewhere expensive, I might not have such a problem with it. She has a sinecure and she has abused the authority of her position.

5. And she holds a huge amount of power in that little county

Not only does she issue (or not as the case may be) licenses, she keeps all the county records, collects taxes, acts as county financial officer, and - the scary part - runs the elections.

If I lived there I would be very concerned about that much power given to a religious fanatic who does not believe in the rule of law - or who is too stupid to understand the US Constitution (despite having sworn to uphold it).

We're talking middle class income. She needs to not have that job anymore but that sounds like fair compensation.

12. Yeah. At eighty grand one can really pack it away.

I get what you are saying about incomes being regional. It's a fact as cost of living varies greatly. But eighty grand isn't some enormous sum of money. It would provide a descent retirement depending on life events. One bout of cancer and the savings are all gone even with good insurance. Paying for one child to go to Duke and half is gone if the parent wants to pay. A vacation to an exotic place once every other year. I don't begrudge what would be just enough to go see the world during ones limited time off. I'm talking being able to live comfortably. While I don't like many of the players, a good government job, elected or not, should be well paying and a great option for people. I won't talk bad about eighty grand for this position.

Because she was indoctrinated at a very young age. But at this point she is willful and aware of her actions.

The only time I saw him in something else was when they put him in his coffin.

Some people made fun of him for how he dressed too. Probably a big part of the reason I never do think very much of people who make fun of how other people look and dress.
