I'm in favor of legalization, but this is a very good point. There's this huge injustice at play. People's lives have been being destroyed for 40 years - and people of color more than white people because there's a huge disparity in levels of arrest, and likelihood of conviction, and severity of sentencing based on race, and of course whether you got shot during an encounter with police - every step of the criminal justice system is heavily biased. Do we just pretend this never happened and move on without any acknowledgment of the past?
