PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) - The Maine Democratic Partys executive director said Tuesday that Graham Platners campaign has tried to influence the process for replacing him as the partys U.S. Senate nominee, as pressure mounts for Platner to withdraw from the race.
Devon Murphy-Anderson said in a video statement that the party has been working around the clock to develop a process that is open, inclusive, transparent and fair if Platner formally exits the race.
snip------------------------------------
Murphy-Anderson said Platners team has repeatedly contacted the Maine Democratic Party in an effort to shape the replacement process. Graham Platners team has repeatedly reached out to us in an attempt to put their thumb on the scale of what this process looks like, Murphy-Anderson said.
Murphy-Anderson said the party has told Platners campaign that it has no role in choosing the next Democratic nominee or determining the process for doing so. We have also reiterated that Graham Platner must drop out of this race so that Democrats in Maine can focus on defeating Susan Collins this November, Murphy-Anderson said.

If he wants to go scorched-earth there's no apparent means to stop him.

(11,018 posts)He can't be forced to drop out. He has to drop out willingly in order for a replacement to be selected. That's called leverage.

(73,482 posts)the platform, but I also appreciate the party distancing themselves from him and his character. I'd love to see the party put forth a similar spitfire progressive, but one who has been accurately vetted and who comes with the political experience a Senator should have.
