8. US was truly high on its own supply re: USMNT

So many Americans bet on the USMNT to win last night that it moved the odds to even (a coin toss) or even a slight US favorite. That's completely absurd. Anybody with the slightest soccer knowledge cleaned up, as did the book.

The commentary by the Fox announcers before the game was similarly ludicrous. Zlatan couldn't help shaking his head at some of Alexi Lalas' proclamations. When Lalas declared once again that the US was greedy (he has been running a clownish "Greed is Good" trope throughout the Cup broadcasts) poor Thierry Henry truly looked like he was questioning his life decisions to appear on a stage with this moron. Dempsey dutifully stated that the US could win, but Dempsey grew up with real ones and couldn't quite pull off the lie: wry smile.

The US was lucky not to lose worse than they did. Belgium sat one of its stars (Kevin DeBruyne) for the entire game, mocking the US whining over Balogun's suspension. It sat Romalu Lukaku most of the game, though he came on to score the fourth goal against a defeated US squad. Both those decisions can be put down to age: De Bruyne and Lukaku are both later career and need the rest. That can't be said for superstar Jeremy Doku, who also sat the start the game, coming on in the 65th minute.

Even with those players sitting, Belgium easily outclassed the US team. Christian Pulisic - who the Fox crew said should have a strong game - was undressed by the Belgian midfielders, losing the dribble multiple times in the first 20 minutes. Balogun was nowhere, apart from a few second half chances, including a completely squandered moment when his Belgian defender missed the ball and fell, putting Balogun through on goal. He tamely played it directly into the Belgian goalkeeper. Tillman played well, but was kept in check wherever he drifted. Every US attempt to move in the final third seemed to be stymied by Youri Tielemans and Leandro Troussard, who seemed to be playing without expending too much effort. In the end, the US frustration started to show: nasty fouls by Robinson and a few by Tyler Adams (both of whom will pay for them in the Prem next year) drew little more than smiles from the Belgians, who knew they were dealing with a sad and beaten squad.

It was men against boys out there again for the USMNT.

FIFA doesn't care, they cleaned up with all the tickets they sold to the American fans.
From now on the stadiums will be half empty because the USA team is out of it.

14. Belgian national team mocks U.S., Trump after World Cup win

An X post from the Belgian side reading “overturn this” circulated Monday night.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2026/07/07/belgian-national-team-mocks-us-trump-after-world-cup-win/

First came the beatdown. Then came the mocking.

After Belgium throttled the United States 4-1 in the World Cup Round of 16 on Monday night, the Belgians had even more fun at the Americans’ expense, mostly zeroing in on the saga of U.S. striker Folarin Balogun.

His one-game suspension for the red card he received in the Round of 32 was lifted by FIFA on Sunday, after President Donald Trump requested a review from the governing body. The soccer world, and especially Belgium, responded with fury, accusing FIFA of placating Trump.

Thus, after the win, the Belgian national team’s X account posted a photo of the team’s fourth goal marked with the message “Overturn this.” Similarly, after that goal, many of Belgium’s players did the “Trump dance,” swaying their hips and rocking their hands back and forth.

“A lot has happened off the pitch over the last two days,” Belgium midfielder Nicolas Raskin said after the game. “There was a sense of injustice within the squad, and we were determined to respond on the field.”

No telling what else this maniac is going to do, and NO REPUBLICANS are going to stop him from any of this shit.

Republicans are responsible for ALL of this mess. Not trump! He couldn't have done this without REPUBLICAN complicity.

for the U.S. Soccer Team to have to put up with all this horrendous amount of shit, just because of that pathetic, infantile, poopy pants, shit head.....

I can only imagine that this time around...... Trump's totally corrupted butt buddies at FIFA will have to give him a two foot tall, solid gold, "Participation" trophy for the oval office............
I would bet Mr. Poopy Pants has a whole room full of "Participation" trophies that he has collected since childhood.......

( BTW: I can't begin to tell you how much I am against all these kids "Participation Trophies" they get in almost everything).

The game itself is beautiful in its simplicity and action and I have enjoyed watching many of the WC matches. But the corrupt politics injected into the game and its treatment of players has me thinking about ignoring the next one and others if the current FIFA regime is still in charge. I have concerns about the NFL too as they are also ruled by elites. I wish the players would have more active standing in the governance of their sport.

Sometimes the refereeing is more memorable then the actual game. These aren't life and death world changing activites, it's supposed to be entertainment. If Trump had stayed out of it, USA would forever be know for having this game stolen from them by a poor call of a referee. Their loss would have gone down in history and be memorable. "But for that bad man (referee) they surely would have won the entire World Cup!" Trump and fans would say.

Now, they're just losers. They choked. Bye. Go home.
