The strength, the glue that holds NATO together is the clause that states, an attack on 1 member is an attack on all members.
Was thinking about this, is Krasnov going to say that the US will not abide by that clause, that the US will decide on its own what country it will aid?
If Krasnov does this, will that be the end of NATO as we know it?
I heard Rachel last night suggest this scenario.

(55,845 posts)Putin marches back into East Germany to "re-claim" it and Trump will say, "Well, Germany didn't pay the expected protection money. Let Russia take what it wants."

(2,095 posts)Russia has burned through virtually all of its best tanks. They can't establish air superiority over Ukraine. Nor can they defend their own airspace. Their navy is a complete joke -they've lost two (2) submarines to a nation without a real navy. Additionally, their Black Sea fleet has had to re-base further away from Ukraine and is basically sidelined.
Russian-occupied Crimea has no fuel, very little electricity, and no viable way to re-supply.
Russia has suffered 1.4 million casualties.
Russia isn't strong enough to invade Europe with any hope of success. Of course, that doesn't mean the idiots won't try, but if they do they will regret it in very, very short order.

If pooty told stupid to bully Zelenskyy and pooty is willing to attack a NATO member, like Rachel speculated, that's a major issue for the alliance. I think NATO has prepared for this possibility.

(2,095 posts)Ukraine has proven that beyond any reasonable doubt. Any attack on Europe will end Russia...quickly.

(33,140 posts)but NATO would be much stronger with the former United States as a member. The United States we have now may even degrade NATO, it would certainly vote No to make Ukraine a member.
I must admit though, that Krasnov has unified NATO
Fiendish Thingy
(24,651 posts)The only thing in danger is the USs status in the international community.
Trump will say whatever he thinks will garner the most attention.
It doesnt matter, because right now, who might attack NATO?
Not Russia- Putin is busy losing a war to Ukraine, and unless hes going to start sending squadrons of babushkas armed with rolling pins into the Baltic states, NATO has nothing to worry about for the next couple of years.
Meanwhile NATO nations are boosting their defense spending and independence from the US war machine.
Anything Trump does at the conference will be for the theatre of his own mind.
