(3,605 posts)Muslim girls are typically not required to wear the hijab prior to puberty. We have a large Muslim population where I live. We appreciate them and get along great. They consist of pretty mainstream Sunni branches from Iraq, Syria, Pakistan. This is different. Requiring kindergarten children to wear hijabs is not common and points to their parents a being super conservative Muslim. Super conservative Muslims are every bit as annoying as their counterpart Christian and Jews. Moreover, they don't get the idea of separation of church and state. I consider myself a staunch separation of church and state guy. To imply this is "mainstream" Muslim religious practice (kindergarten hijab) is not correct. I appreciate how and why outward religious displays are discouraged in France.
