Iran has no choice but to obtain a nuclear bomb to remove the military option against the country during the transition to a new world order, IRGC-affiliated Fars News wrote in a commentary on Sunday.
The outlet argued that Iran must achieve nuclear deterrence to gain what it called the calm needed to ensure other disputes can be resolved through negotiations.
Fars wrote that only under such conditions would negotiations be possible from the right position.
It also argued that nuclear deterrence could create a balance of power between Iran, the United States and Israel and keep the scope of any possible conflict under control.

(9,500 posts)Will only result in more nations racing to arm themselves with this rather dangerous deterrent for being attacked.
Putin and Trump, two old narcissists pissed that the world will soon go on without them, have made sure the world is more dangerous for those who live on.

(60,840 posts)They previously had no justification to build a nuclear weapon. In my eyes, they still dont, but I think the hard(er)-liners there wanted to build it anyway. Now they think they have finally found a reason why they have to build one. But again, maybe they just think the threat will be enough to get the concessions they seek. They certainly care more about getting cash for their oil than seeing Tel Aviv go up in a mushroom cloud, especially knowing that Tehran would share the same fate fifteen minutes later.()

(1,491 posts)I wouldn't be shocked if either Iran or Israel did a first strike
Shiite apocalyptic theology does have an influence in the Iranian government. And there are factions in Israel who would salivate at the chance to nuke Iran.

(60,840 posts)This isnt Japan 1945, where practically the only foreign presence in Hiroshima and Nagasaki might have been leftover remnants of Nazi consulates. Both Tel Aviv and Tehran have huge foreign diplomatic and commercial presences of over 100 nations. None of them will react favorably to having Israel or Iran wipe them out, not to mention the fallout of a nuke on Tel Aviv wiping out tens or hundreds of thousands of Palestinians as well as Israelis. I just dont see it, although I may just be seeing things with a optimistic eye.
