It seems like a huge percentage of du participants are well off, I am not saying rich but yall talk about investing and vacationing a lot so theres no reason it would be on your mind all the time, that people are starving because of republicans controlling all 3 branches.
But thats what is happening
Dont let the imperfections of our very human candidates stop the blue wave we should be able to expect

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/30/snap-food-stamps-big-beautiful-bill.html

Consumers are facing price pressures as the costs of groceries and gas rise. The pace of inflation is expected to increase in the coming months, according to the Survey of Professional Forecasters, a quarterly macroeconomic survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Meanwhile, there has been a remarkable increase in food insecurity, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said in a recent blog post, as people cope with higher costs and the loss of federal aid.
A new analysis shows that nationwide almost 9% of individuals more than 3.5 million who were beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food benefits to low-income families, lost those benefits between July, when President Donald Trump signed his big beautiful bill into law, and February. The analysis was conducted by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan research and policy institute.
That legislation included more stringent rules to qualify for SNAP, particularly regarding work requirements. In addition, the law shifted some administrative and cost responsibilities to states. Ahead of the laws passage, proponents said the changes to SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, would reduce waste and provide accountability.
Almost 42 million people nationwide received SNAP benefits in fiscal year 2025, according to the most recent figures from the Department of Agriculture. As states implement the changes, some are already experiencing dramatic declines in SNAP participation, according to CBPP, which used data from the Department of Agriculture and state programs.

My Luteran Church runs its own food bank and receives food from the USDA. We have seen a tremendous increase in the number of clients coming in the last year. The federal government has made cuts to what they give the food bank, but the community and the church come through. Many red states have already cut SNAP benefits and Medicaid; the Blues states are hanging on but when that Big Beautiful Bill goes into effect, they will be in trouble too. In this county we have community food banks also. Progressive sites are filled with folks talking about lacking food, lacking healthcare and the ability to pay for utilities. It is heartbreaking, I never thought this nation would be like this.

They seem to get loads of things almost or just out of date from area supermarkets and farms, but its a HUGE load off to be able to come home and stuff our cupboards with basicsand sometimes, near-luxury treats (I dont do meat but they sent my son--also struggling to find work--home with like six packages of bacon, four chicken breasts, and a whole damned chicken last week!)

The Dallas catholic apparently has some large long term financial donors that keep it operating well.

(60,762 posts)There, but for the grace of God, go I, as the saying goes. Substitute the Great Spirit for God, and I agree completely. My best friend in Dallas, who has made a ton of money just by having a knack for it, donated a goodly portion of his net worth to build a park in Dallas in a part of town that could really use a boost. It seemed more practical (and enduring!) than donating $15 to every single person in the metroplex. Some people legitimately at the end of their rope ask for help. There is no shame in that any more than there is any shame in having made out well.

(60,762 posts)There are arguments when certain groups show up and try to grab a disproportionate amount of food, and latecomers sometimes go home empty-handed, but the organizers are aware of the problem, and try to prevent it from happening. Back in the States, there seems to be quite a few large scale food banks, real structured organizations, nothing like the small operation here.
For some reason, I got contacted by the Vermont Foodbank some twenty years ago. I checked with a friend who used to be governor there, and he confirmed to me that they did good work, so I send them a few hundred dollars a year. Theres no special reason I picked a food bank in Vermont other that my friend recommended them, and they were not religiously affiliated.

I am privileged enough not to need food stamps. I'm also privileged enough to be able to afford the higher ACA premiums. But I'm not so privileged to have not needed student loans.
Trump ended Biden's new student loan repayment that I could actually afford and see a path to being debt free one day. Within the next 90 days or so, myself and millions of others are being forced to begin much more expensive repayment after having been kicked off Biden's affordable repayment plan and onto the Republican's higher priced plan.
This isn't even mentioning Trump's MAGA Supreme Court overturning student loan debt relief that myself and millions of others could have used.
Some voters claiming to be allies and claiming to do what's in our best interest, you can trace a straight line from their irresponsible actions in 2016 to the pain so many of us are feeling today.

We need to bring this country back from the brink. Not every Dem GE candidate will be (your idea of) perfect on Israel, Trans rights, immigration laws, defense spending, energy policy, environmental policy, reproductive rights policy, health care policy ....
Vote for, and more importantly, with your voice (vocal and digital), SUPPORT the GE Democratic candidates.
That's the only hope.
We will deal with the fine points after we've pulled back from the brink.
Every single Dem-aligned constituency of the policies I mentioned above, and those I omitted ... WILL SUFFER MORE UNDER CONTINUED REPUBLICAN RULE, than if the Dem who doesn't quite support certain constituencies as well as we'd like, takes office with sufficient fellow Dems to pull this country back to some semblance of sanity.

(1,803 posts)The shame was awful, but my kids were going to eat, I didn't care how I made that happen. They had decent clothes, school supplies, the best housing I could get. Medical and dental. I did without if I had to.
I don't have much, but I buy stuff for the local blessing boxes. Food, personal items, household goods. I'm looking at picking up a couple more places to drop things off. No, I don't trust the food pantries here, they have been proven to be corrupt and I'd rather buy stuff I know people will use and donate it around my area. Our local library system has places to drop off, a few churches have them, a couple of private citizens keep up a couple.
My health isn't great, and my hospital stay last month took a lot out of me, and I spent a lot of time worrying about not being able to drop off my donations as usual. But the first time I went out I got to a couple of places and gave out what I'd had before the emergency room called me.
Time to stock up again and hit the rounds. If a senior on a limited budget can do it, it's not impossible. Every little bit helps. IF you can't donate, spread the word to those who could. Graciousness and kindness helps. I saw a mother with a couple of kids buy a soda for a homeless man, sitting in the heat outside the library last week. She's teaching them the right lessons.
