Erin Brockovich Maps Data Centers

"The RACE to build AI infrastructures is unfolding town by town across America. In some places, data centers are welcomed. In others, they are delayed, contested or abandoned altogether. This MAP captures the real-world footprint of that race — revealing patterns of growth, conflict and uncertainty.

I am watching as YOU, the communities show up and speak out. In the famous words of Mark Twain … “The secret of getting ahead is getting started,” so let’s go!

— Erin"

The e-waste will be overwhelming.

The loss of jobs for humans will be devastating.

To the point it's quicker to just gather the information old school. Maybe we should export the tech bros Russia as a modern day Trojan Horse. Let them f up their natural environment on a fools errand.

This is a screenshot:

On her website you can see where the operation data centers are now, and also the ones that are under construction. The really shocking number is how many "proposed" and "community reported" data centers are on there. Very scary!

Not built, under construction or proposed. We have this thing called Act 250, enacted back in the 70's, which makes doing things like that extremely time consuming and uber expensive. Unfortunately, it also makes housing construction pricier than it should be in a place that's desperate for additional housing. And limits business development. At least there are some upsides. This is one of them.

The Mormons are already sucking up all the available water and as a result the Great Salt Lake is drying up. A dry lakebed blows toxic dust onto everyone.

there is NO positive outcome here for anyone but billionaires.

Not for the environment, average people’s finances, human health, democracy, education…the list goes on and on.

Republicans play the long term because they don't have to answer to the people. They only have to come up with culture clash words to distract their people. Democrats have always been too busy trying to mop up the messes from the prior Repuglican administration to act "right now" on any single issue. And it's come to bite us in the butt. R's just don't care. They hide behind the words "God will fix it." I say they hide behind the words because you can't prove to me that any R is religious enough to truly believe what he says.

We may have to let some of the R policies they fought so hard for... the ones that in particular hit MAGA... slip down the priority list in order to take up important items for own constituency... like reforming the SCOTUS, passing free and fair election reforms, reforming the IRS, expanding the social safety net to include Medicare for All and a real COLA for seniors... something beyond the $5 or $10 a month we've been seeing no matter what the percentage they say they're increasing it by. And my paramount concern is a Truth and Reconciliation Council, in the form of the Nuremberg Trials. And I'd like to see Jack lead the Council (if trump doesn't kill him first).... NOT political members.

Build a wall to keep AI from stealing our jobs?
Send ICE to these towns all across America to rough up these data centers?

Maybe they're still waiting for billionaires to trickle down all over us.

they're trying to place as many as they can as close as they can to major riverways. This is bad in SO many ways. River water and our aquifer water are our main sources for drinking water. They get polluted with PFAS from all these data centers, and you might as well just swallow cyanide for all the poisons you'll be drinking and eating. And that doesn't even touch on the river ecology that will be lost... plants, dams, and most of all, fish and other aquatic animals. Although I can't tell for absolute surety from her map, it looks like they're building one close to our "local" nuke plant, too. I really don't get the feeling that's a good thing.... who gets water first? Cooling towers for nukes or cooling towers for computers? I think I know which way the tech bros will go...

For the most part the owners of the data centers aren’t anticipated as the end user. The business model is that their capacity is leased by… Um, someone.

Besides the government which is being hollowed out by the Turd Reich I can think of only a few corporate entities which would need the power of a data center and they probably already have their own.

Is this a case of build it and nobody comes?

Looks like they are trying to empty Lake Michigan.

And it looks like they are where the tornadoes usually hit in Southeastern WI too.
