https://www.mediaite.com/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-worries-trump-will-try-to-cancel-2028-election-he-constantly-says-it/Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she is worried that President Donald Trump will use the war in Iran to try to cancel the 2028 presidential election. Greene, formerly a longtime Trump ally, has split with the president over the last year over the war, the Epstein files, and other issues. The president also reportedly refused to back Greene in a potential Senate run. She resigned from the House in January.
The conflict with Iran, which Trump launched in February with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has split MAGA media pundits. On Thursday, Greene was interviewed by Alex Jones, who has also ditched Trump over what he sees as a betrayal of the American First agenda. The former congresswoman pointed to a meeting Trump had last year with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Elections in Ukraine are currently postponed amid Russias ongoing invasion of the country.
So you say, during the war, you cant have elections, Trump said in the meeting last year. So, you say, during the war, you cant have elections. So let me just see. Three and a half years from now, so you mean if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections? Oh, thats good. Im concerned, Greene told Jones. And he said it jokingly. But at the same time, knowing President Trump, I looked at that, and I thought, I dont know if hes saying it, joking.

I remember that clip, Jones responded. Thats what psychos do. So, that type of behavior is someone planting an idea over and over, Greene responded. And again, he constantly says it so that he can normalize the idea and test the support and test peoples reactions. But saying it over and over and over again normalizes the idea. And I think its incredibly dangerous, and no one should ever accept it. Absolutely, absolutely not. There cannot be a third term, no. Thats against our laws. Thats against the Constitution. There is no third term. And if this country is at war, no, our election should not be canceled, absolutely not.

On May 11, 2026, the far-right commentator Laura Loomer claimed on X that former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene had moved to Costa Rica. The claim spread quickly across social media.
Loomer based her allegation on anonymous sources who said the Republican purchased a $5 million mansion in Costa Rica in 2024 and that she sold her house in Rome, Georgia, in March 2026, about two and a half months after resigning from Congress.
"This is proof she was always planning to leave Congress. She just used President Trump as a scapegoat for abandoning her constituents and fleeing the country," Loomer wrote.
Snopes users searched the site and emailed us looking for more information about the claim. We were unable to definitively prove any of Loomer's accusations at the time of publication and therefore have not rated this story.

We attempted to contact Greene or her representatives for comment but had not heard back as of this writing. In an X post responding to Loomer's allegations, Greene, who repeatedly referred to Loomer as "Lying Larry," said she was "100% a proud American who lives in Georgia," and acknowledged that she was spending time in Costa Rica, calling it a "a beautiful country filled with beautiful people."

It's important to note that an unconfirmed report on social media claiming Greene owns a house in Costa Rica and sold a house in Georgia isn't concrete proof she moved to Costa Rica permanently. While Loomer claimed anonymous sources had confirmed Greene's move, TMZ reported a different story also citing anonymous sources saying Greene had sold her house in Georgia, was looking to purchase a different home in the same state and was simply in Costa Rica on vacation. (Due to the anonymity of the sources, Snopes could not verify either claim.)
We reviewed Floyd County, Georgia, property records to find Greene's house in Rome, a six-bedroom, six-bathroom home on just over 10 acres of land. Those records didn't list a recent sale. We plugged the address of that property into the realtor sites Zillow, Redfin and Realtor.com. All three listed the house as off-market. Only Realtor.com indicated the house was sold in March 2026.
As of publication, Snopes could not confirm that Greene owned property in Costa Rica. We will update this story with any additional information.

(151,584 posts)What crap. We have always had elections, wars or no wars. There is nothing that allows elections to be cancelled.
We had elections in 1944. We had elections in 1942. We had elections in 1952. We have elections during wartime. We always have had elections during wars.
Screw Trump. He cannot cancel elections. He has zero power to do so. Elections are run by the individual states.
THERE ARE NO NATIONAL ELECTIONS IN THE USA! PERIOD!
