I don't subscribe to the nonsense about having no elections or Trump holling up in the white house bunker and refusing to leave.
We will win in November and again in 2028. However, I am less optimistic about being able to repair the country and undo the wreck Trump and his minions are doing.
The damage they wrought at record speed was only possible because they are willing and eager to break the law, bypass congress ( with a gop congress happy to oblige) , ignore the constitution and norms of our democracy.
I fear that once we take over, it will take decades to fix because our elected leaders , being democrats and respectful of the rule of law and separation of powers won't be willing to employ drastic measures to right the wrongs.
I can't imagine a democratic president ordering around his/her attorney general for example or even willing to fire board members appointed for several years ( like Kevin warsh at the feds or the fbi director, etc...).
Anyway, step 1 is to get the country back, I hope our leaders (and us, voters ) will do whatever it takes to achieve that and also in the subsequent rebuilding efforts and "de-trumpisation" of our institutions.

We will have to think forward and take no quarter from R's or MAGAs no matter how much they ask for forgiveness. There will be no place for them to have political sway in our new country.

(22,747 posts)This isn't Belarus. This isn't Myanmar. This isn't Russia. Such things are not in our collective DNA. There will always be 20 to 30% who need a daddy figure. But collectively, that's not how Americans roll. Notice how after the 2 murders in Minneapolis, the fascists backed it down several notches and Herr Miller went MIA. They know damn well we're not having it.
Granted, the repair job will be extensive. But we can build it back better than before if we'll only try. If we stop the Dem politics of the last couple decades and go back to our roots.

(2,078 posts)certainly be intimidation tactics employed by the government, but I do think well win. The aftermath is going to be a shitshow, though. Expect a crapload of Republicans to scream fraud (their new favorite word) and contest the results. Every since they normalized that shit back in 2020, its a foregone conclusion that many of these elections are going to be settled in court, and thats going to remain an issue in the future.
Trump not leaving (or trying not to leave, anyway) is a valid fear, and more qualified political analysts than many of us have made that prediction if he won in 2024. Fortunately, he does seem to have at least publicly backed off of the idea in favor of leaving a permanent impact in other wayslike with all these unprecedented policies and stupid vanity projects--some of this regimes recent actions (and not just the bunker) are definitely worrying in that respect. Im actually planning on being outside of the country by the time we find out, but I will vote in any case.
And yes, drastic measures are definitely going to need to be necessary. We have a completely unregulated (in this country) technology rapidly reshaping society and were only a couple years out from massive rises in sea level. We do NOT have time to be refighting old battles and playing nice with fascists who would gladly do this all over again if given the chance. Prosecute them all.
