Trump Sparks Social Media Backlash After Telling a Little Girl She Is too Short For Volleyball

A White House ceremony meant to celebrate America’s most physically active young people somehow turned into one of those “did that really just happen?” moments.

During the Presidential Physical Fitness Youth Challenge signing ceremony in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump told a young girl, in front of a room full of people, that her height would stop her from ever playing volleyball. Yes, at an event literally designed to hype kids up.

The exchange was caught on video and quickly made its rounds across multiple channels. What should have been a wholesome, gold-star kind of day took a sharp detour into viral clip territory. And that was only the beginning of how strange things got.

The girl at the center of the moment has not been publicly identified, but she was among several kids invited to the South Lawn to play sports in celebration of the initiative's announcement. So we’re talking proud parents, big smiles, and a once-in-a-lifetime Oval Office visit. When she mentioned she liked volleyball, the conversation could have gone in a dozen encouraging directions. But it did not.

I wouldn't allow any child or grandchild of mine anywhere near that monster. Dad has now created a memorable moment for his lovely daughter, but not necessarily a good one. Trump around any children just makes me cringe.

The little girl lies to play volleyball. What the Orange Turd doesn't understand is you don't have to be tall to play or be good at volleyball. Like many people, he focuses on height when in fact most of the play is from those on the back line and the setter who don't need to be tall. In the 80s, my girlfriend played volleyball on the base team in a inter-service tournament and was named the MVP of the tournament. She was about 5'6" and was the setter but played the back line and was a good server.

Instead of dashing the little girls love of the game he should have encouraged her by asking her what position(s) she played and what she likes about the game.
