Can Democrats Win the Senate?

Bloomberg: “It’s a stretch, especially with Republicans holding a fundraising advantage, including a plan this week by the GOP-aligned Senate Leadership Fund to allocate $342 million to the key battlegrounds. But Democrats have history and momentum on their side. In 2006, another Republican president with fading popularity in the middle of his second term — George W. Bush — lost both the House and, more surprisingly, the Senate amid waning support for the war in Iraq.”

“Democrats’ chances likely hinge on four states where they are seen as most competitive, and several more that are potentially in play. They’ll then have to stave off well-funded Republican efforts to flip several Democratic-held seats, including two in states won by Trump, with the GOP touting Trump’s tax cuts and other issues that helped elect the president, like border security.”

This discourages Democrats from voting, and encourages donors to keep supporting Republicans. Democrats’ messaging has to be that they are the favorites.

It helps that they are. NC and ME should be pickups, and NH is the only current D seat I am concerned about because of Sununu. AK, OH, IA, TX are potential pickups, and an independent could win deep red NE. The independent running in MT is really a MAGA Republican, and could split that vote.

It will be difficult to balance a loss there in some other state.

Ossoff has been one of the most intelligent, level-headed and articulate Senators on our side. No wonder they hate him!

When MTG’s district shifts 20+ points towards the Dems, it will be nearly impossible for any strategic targeting of blue districts to affect the outcome.

They seized 2020 ballots in Fulton county- I’m not sure how that’s going to affect this year’s election.

It’s entirely possible that raid and seizure was simply a response to the impulsive orders of a demented felon who still can’t get over his loss, and wants PROOF! that he actually won.

NC, ME and OH are the most likely pickups, but the Trump-induced widespread suffering over the past year has also put AK, TX, IA into play.

MI and GA are two swing seats we will have to defend, but both are less vulnerable than at this time last year. With the 20+ point swing towards Dems in MTG’s district this week, Ossoff’s odds improved dramatically.

Even if we only net a gain of 2-3 seats, it positions Dems well for 2028, when the senate map will be much more in our favor.

Not going to get my hopes up this early.
All this expressed optimism sure sounds like what was posted here in 2024
