Early voting numbers in Virginia referendum outpacing 2025 general election
Va. (WSET) With just over three weeks until Election Day, early voting is surging in Virginias referendum on new congressional maps, with turnout outpacing last year's general election early voting.
Registrars offices across the commonwealth have had a steady stream of voters over the past three weeks, as interest in the proposed maps drives participation. The issue has been widely discussed by politicians, in the media and among voters.
According to the Virginia Public Access Project, 530,711 ballots have been cast so far in the referendum as of March 29. This is compared with about 516, 532 at the same point during early voting in last years general election.
Political analyst Dr. Dave Richards said while the pace of turnout is notable, the strong participation itself is not unexpected.
