(113,929 posts)policies--all of his policies-- to be support for Israel and its future. And conversely, a lack of support conflated to mean anti-Zionism and even antisemitism.
Israel will suffer a horrific future (and no, I'm not talking about biblical Armageddon though there are many that WANT to make that come about) if we are pulled into a nuclear conflict. I think it is hard to argue we are not teetering on WWIII with all throughout the Middle East already drawn in.
Netanyahu is a monster because his acts are intentional. Trump is a disastrous and deadly narcissist, close to total meltdown given his progressive dementia and thus an absolute target for manipulation by Netanyahu, Putin, and others. His acts may be intentional, but they are not considered, but rather under manipulative influence or impulse.
If something doesn't change soon, we are F...ked.

(3,477 posts)That assertion is just a teensy bit hyperbolic, in my opinion. I think it's pretty easy to argue that we're not teetering on the verge of WWIII.
Iran isn't comparable to any of the Axis countries in any meaningful sense. They don't have the military power of Germany, Italy, or Japan. They don't have the backing of any other nations (Hezbollah and the Houthis don't count) who are willing to rush to their aid and dive into the fray to help them. No other nation has even talked about sanctions against the US or Israel, as far as I know.
Iran is fairly friendly with Russia, China, and to a lesser extent North Korea. None of them are about to stick their necks out for the Iranians, though. Russia is bogged down in Ukraine; China doesn't give a shit about Iran and if they're going to come to blows with the US it'll be over Taiwan, not Iran; the Norks have trouble feeding their own people from one year to the next. None of the three can project force into the theater of operations anyway. At best they can supply Iran with drones and munitions but that's about the extent of it.
Apart from the aforementioned Hezbollah and Houthis, no one else in the region even likes Iran. The Sunni-Shia divide runs deep. Iran has been kind of a shitty neighbor so none of the other countries in the region want to see them realize their ambitions. They're more than content to provide indirect support and watch the US pound on Iran.
It's a regional war with wide-ranging economic effects due to the quirk of geography that is the Strait of Hormuz. That's all it is. The prelude to World War III, not so much.

(113,929 posts)I spent much of my working life in the Middle East including those Israel is continuing to bomb and the bases we have throughout. When the oil is shut off throughout the world, as well as helium, other invaluable minerals and byproducts, including fertilizer- and a good part of the world is facing starvation, your naivete' may be tested.
That you post that I am hyperbolic in a thread where Netanyahu is trying to get the US to go nuclear... wow. No wonder we have Trump in the White House and all that is happening today. "It can't happen here," right.
Jedi Guy
(3,477 posts)There are other sources of oil besides the Middle East. Helium not so much, sure, but again, the rest of the world isn't lining up to jump in and help Iran. If the rest of the world gets involved at all it will be an attempt to negotiate a ceasefire, I expect. That's already happening.
Bibi can push for us to use nukes all he wants. That doesn't mean it will happen and it doesn't address any of the points I made.
Lastly, it's pretty rude to label someone as naive just because they don't immediately agree with your opinions. But I suppose that goes back to you seeming to take it very personally when someone has the temerity to disagree with you. On a discussion board, no less. What was I thinking?
hlthe2b
(113,929 posts)That's why Trump is in the damned WH and now empowers Netanyahu to threaten much of the ME with NUKES.

Disagree with you on whether this conflict is the opening salvo in WWIII? Have you heard the term "non sequitur" before, by chance?
I'd say I'm quite well-informed. My first response to you was a short geopolitical analysis of why we're not teetering on the edge of a third world war. None of which you addressed in any meaningful way beyond more hyperbole, I can't help but notice.
Again, is there some reason you react so viscerally when someone doesn't validate your opinions? Is there some reason you can't, oh I don't know, discuss things civilly without attacking the person who disagreed with you as naive or uninformed?
Edit: And after reading your edits to your post, no, my response was not "beyond rude". I said your assertion was "a teensy bit hyperbolic, in my opinion". That's not being rude, that's commenting on your assertion. Your assertion, not you.
You then responding that I'm "naive", implying that I'm ill-informed, and making a snarky comment about video games, on the other hand, was rude. That's not going after my argument, that's going after me personally.
I'd ask if you can see the difference but I suspect it would be a pointless question.
hlthe2b
(113,929 posts)Which 99.9% here would agree is a totally different framing and a disingenuous restating of the argument. Intentional, no doubt. When you can discuss without such tactics, try again. Otherwise I am done with you. This is too damned serious for such cavalier attitudes.
Jedi Guy
(3,477 posts)Amusing that you accuse me of a strawman fallacy and then immediately throw out an appeal to the majority fallacy. Physician, heal thyself.
Once again, is there a reason you take simple disagreement so personally?
Don't threaten me with a good time.
Yes, discussing geopolitical events on a message board is serious business. Our opinions will no doubt shape how the conflict unfolds.
hlthe2b
(113,929 posts)That you cannot even distinguish the meaning of a very ACTIVE "opening salvo" versus current events "teetering on that which could incite WWIIII" shows a failure to interpret and understand that is pretty shocking for a DUer. For your benefit, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was the active salvo for WWI (if you remember or learned any history whatsoever) and for Americans, the bombing of Pearl Harbor was that active salvo that brought us into WWII. Nowhere have I suggested a single or combined event that could be responsibly construed as an "opening salvo" though it is clear you don't understand the meaning or context of this term at all. So, your strawman is not only deceptive and erroneous but rather unbelievably so. I find your attitude unbelievably unserious and dangerously cavalier, but even more so when you deceptively try to reframe the argument to suit your whims. Others on this subthread clearly agree. They aren't favoring your comments, that's for sure.
I certainly don't want to be proven right. This is not at all, that. But take this shit seriously! Or if you can't, return to your computer game.

(3,477 posts)They're supplying Iran with drones, munitions, and intelligence.
Apart from that it changes nothing in the point I was making, which is that comparing the present situation to the prelude to a world war is a teensy bit hyperbolic. There's no comparison to the kind of military alliance the Axis nations had going on. No one's rushing to jump into the fight on Iran's side by declaring war and opening hostilities.
At best this is a regional conflict with wide-ranging economic effects. A very dumb regional conflict that Trump never should have started, yes, but not the opening shots of a global war.

This way he can affirm to the world that he is the manliest macho alpha male on the entire planet. While he runs off to his makeup room to freshen up his cosmetics, painted on facial enhancements, and bathe himself in expensive French perfumes and colognes.

Perhaps Israel could use their own atomic bombs against Iran,
and then Russia would use theirs against Israel, obliterating Israel,
and then the U.S. would likewise attack Russia, and Russia would attack the U.S.,
and that would be THE END OF THE WORLD !!!!
Sorry for that.....

(202 posts)The UN seems to be doing something...
UN planning for a nuclear strike on Iran by US/Israel
@mhdksafa
I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.
This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It's not some low population desert. There are families, children, family pets. Regular working class people with dreams. You're sick to want war.
Tehran is a city of nearly 10,000,000 people. Imagine nuking Washington, Berlin, Paris, London, or beyond, bombed with nuclear weapons.
I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information. I suspended my duties so as not to be part of or a witness to this crime against humanity, in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late.
Yesterday, nearly ten million people protested No Kings in the United States. The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons must be taken very seriously. It's dangerous. Act now. Spread this message worldwide. Take the streets. Protest for our humanity and future. Only the people can stop it. History will remember us.
Whether it comes to pass or not is another question, but risk analysis says we should treat the possibility seriously. If it does happen the outcome is too dire.

(202 posts)It's not necessarily going to happen, but the odds seem to be getting worse all the time.
Nukes could probably breach the tunnel complexes... The temptation must be growing in Tel Aviv.

(3 posts)There is no credible evidence that Benjamin Netanyahu has called for the U.S. to use nuclear weapons against Iran.
What he has consistently said is:
Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons
This can be stopped through diplomacy or military action targeting nuclear facilities
Recent reporting focuses on:
Ongoing conflict and strikes between Israel, the U.S., and Iran
Strong rhetoric and pressure to dismantle Irans nuclear program
Bottom line:
The claim about wanting U.S. nuclear weapons used is misleading or unsupportedhis position is about preventing Iran from getting nukes, not using them.

Hes not stupid, he knows damn well what the consequences would be and he simply doesnt care. It would be beneficial to everyone if he was no longer around.
Of course this would never happen but it seems like the best course of action from where I sit. Hes the key to all of this disaster.

(18,505 posts)... realizing that the voice of reason and moderation is now on board in Israel found in the presents of Hyper-Krishtun Nationalist Pastor Mike Huckabee.
Having Krishtun Nazi Huckabee chirping in Netanyahu's ear 24/7 will guarantee in the ushering of Armageddon or some facsimile thereof into the Middle East theater of war and endless devastation.
Damn to the 70 million trDUMP voters who constructed this chess board of human suffering and death currently being realized.
They were warned and warned again not to do this. But teaching the Libs a lesson about being alpha macho men was just too important and entertaining to them as they quenched their bloodlust. So they voted this horrendous administration and cabinet into place, as the USA suffers the consequences on the world stage and around the globe.
Now nobody trusts us any longer as we are methodically stripped of our world leadership roles. It will take decades if ever - to reverse the damage Team trDUMP has brought upon this country and our standing in the world.

(18,505 posts)NDTV/Profit - a business and financial news outlet from India - an on going operation for nearly one quarter of a century.
NDTV Profit is an Indian business and financial news television channel by NDTV. In mid-2020, NDTV re-launched NDTV Profit with live market news, which caused the shutdown of NDTV Prime.
It has many journalists covering the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). It also covers the latest business deals and acts as a platform for companies to give their public results, with growth rate, net profit and others. On 14 December 2006, BSE installed one of the largest video screens in India at the BSE building to disseminate capital market information, supported by NDTV Profit.[2
