I just came from filling the gas tank on my vehicle and a guy was saying that we'd better get our tanks filled before the prices skyrocket. Another guy said "That damned fool in the Whotr House ain't gonna make it any better." And a young woman said "Fuck him!". And yesterday I had to take my daughter to a couple of appointments and we decided to stop at a local convenience store to get a couple of slices of pizza. I was waiting for her to get a pop and there was a guy talking on his phone saying that "He's illegally invading Iran. I don't like trump." He then looked at me and said. "Sorry but that's how I feel." I told him he didn't have to apologize to me because I felt the same way. I'm telling you, people out here in the heartland are getting pissed off. And I think if the repukes try to steal the next elections there will be an uprising like we've never seen in our lives.

It's helped pave the way for Trump's predations.

(171 posts)But I don't think they have many buyers, most people don't trust them anymore, for good reason, I think the next Democrat President should act on that to vastly restructure regulations and laws pertaining to Corporate mass media, something along the lines of, if you deliberately use the airwaves to knowingly sell disinformation and falsehoods as legitimate news journalism, your licence are pulled
That idea works for broadcast news but I don't think digital media is licensed. Maybe make it illegal to intentionally spread disinformation but that would be difficult as well.
snot
(11,818 posts)is that whoever's currently in office gets to decide what's "disinformation." Again, we've seen both sides define it in the ways they prefer, at the expense of truth.
I would much rather see us simply repeal the Telecom Act of 1996, which enabled the MASSIVE (and continuing) consolidation of media ownership.
Granted, you might get more news diversity, which could include more cacaphony; but having more independently-owned outlets ensures at least that news media can't be dominated by a handful of oligarchs, as traditional media already is now, with the internet not far behind. We'd also beyond doubt get more and better coverage of local news, which has all but disappeared in many regions.
I'm open to suggestions re- other fixes; but solutions that involve some central arbiter of what's "true" have never succeeded long before being converted by TPTB into a tool for controlling the governed, including keeping us in the dark re- wrongdoing by TPTB.

(4,049 posts)The other piece is that he gives them targets to blame for their situation that are "others" and not "wannabe"
They "wannabe" rich and powerful like Mango on the apprentice. He and all teh hate talk radio, Faux News, etc tell them to blame ...the gays, the Jews, the blacks, affirmative action, the libtards, the Muslims .. for them not being super wealthy. Better to blame an other than accept that you are dumb, lazy, or both.
Try to explain to them that Affirmative Action or Equal Employment Opportunity Act just say that whomever you hire/admit must meet minimum requirements. That means that an unqualified connected straight white dude cannot get hired over a qualified person no matter what group that might be hated they are in. It is supposed to prevent nepo-babies and connections in the old boys network from getting positions that they are not qualified for.
They ignore that MUST BE QUALIFIED for.
The reality is that they should be hating the uberrich superpowerfil white billionaire class who have stolen from them since 1980. But, a lot easier to blame the other than what you aspire to be.

Too many of those people have made mega their whole identity and they are incapable of admitting they are wrong because it would destroy their view of themselves and their righteousness

At this point IDK if they truly support this madness or if they're just so embarrassed & ashamed that it took so long to see the truth. Doesn't matter to me anymore. The orange doesn't come off.

(16,973 posts)cut oil production when demand cratered to keep the price/barrel from dropping more. As the world started to recovery at the start of Biden's term demand spiked but production lagged. The ear in Ukraine caused another disruption in supply. He went through some great lengths to stabilize the market to help with prices.
"President Biden took several measures to address high gas prices during his term (20212025), primarily focusing on increasing global supply and proposing tax relief:
Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) Releases: He ordered the largest release in U.S. history, totaling 180 million barrels in 2022, to stabilize markets following the invasion of Ukraine.
Domestic Production: Under his administration, U.S. crude oil production reached record highs, surpassing 13 million barrels per day by late 2023.
Gas Tax Holiday Proposal: In 2022, he called on Congress to suspend the 18.4-cent federal gas tax for 90 days, though the measure did not pass.
E15 Expansion: He issued emergency waivers allowing the year-round sale of E15 gasoline (15% ethanol blend), which is typically cheaper than standard fuel.
International Diplomacy: He pressured OPEC+ nations to increase their production targets to lower global crude costs."

(15,424 posts)But, in our little town there is one dumpy convenience store that has had cash prices a LOT lower than anywhere else.
It has been solidly $2.85 (at least 25 cents lower than anywhere else) for months now.
Popped to $2.99 two nights ago ...

(42,320 posts)to me today in Walmart. He says I see your cap that you were in the Navy. He goes on about being in the navy too, and his tour in Vietnam. I told him a little about my navy history too. Then out of the clear blue he says, what do I think of that draft dodger starting a war in Iran. My wife standing next to me pipes up and tells this stranger that we hate that SOB. We stood there talking about bone spurs, etc etc for around 30 minutes. This actually happened today in RED INDIANA.

(55,182 posts)I made 2 sided earrings in 2016 and have worn only them from 2016-2020 and 2024-now. I couldn't wear them during Covid since the mask's straps got tangled in my earrings.
On one side is a picture of tRump behind bars in jail and the other side is a red circle with a slash through TRUMP. I use them as a personal, informal poll. People love them and take pictures of them. About 2 weeks ago I got 5 compliments within 15 minutes of wearing them while doing errands. People at my local stores know me through my earrings. One day last weak I felt like a cold was starting and wore my Covid mask and left the earrings at home. I was asked twice where my earrings were.
I made tiny tRump pins that are Russian nesting dolls with crazy eyes on an image of his ranting orange face and yellow hair. Sometimes if someone compliments my earrings I give them a pin to "spread the word".

(5,158 posts)my father, a great depression-era baby, once told me. He said in the 1932 election in his neighborhood every house had a Roosevelt sign except for one. They had a Hoover sign. Needless to say, the family in this one house was outcast by everyone in the neighborhood.
I sense the same thing happening again. The MSM media speculates that the democrats will likely take the house in congress. The senate, they say, is much closer. I don't believe it for a microsecond. People are fed up and tired of the lies. The lies about war, the lies about Epstein, the lies about inflation, the lies about unemployment and the list goes on. This all in just under a year and a half. They are saying "enough is enough!"
Top it off with what ICE is doing and people are livid. I watched a recent clip of a republican senator from North Carolina ripping Noem a new one for the gross misconduct and unconstitutional actions against American citizens by ICE. The fury is growing and even huge in some minds on the republican side. This midterm election, if there is no interference allowed, will be monumental for the Democratic Party.

(4,169 posts)He demanded Kristi Noem resign for incompetence. And he''s Republican through and through, wants criminal undocumented folks deported at a much faster rate than she's doing. He's very pro law enforcement, he said, but that is why it ws so important that those who shot Pretti and Good must be held to account and that the orders being given must be lawful orders.
He said he'd read her book last week. He was disgusted with her taking a 14-month old puppy hunting and then shooting him when he got excited and did the wrong thing. Plus then killing a goat. And then acting like doing those was some kind of sign of leadership.

(264 posts)Feel there are a lot of damaged psyches out there. Also, with very devout religious people there's apparently a higher rate of mental issues and belief that God or angels are literally talking to you... and that they are literally fighting demons or satan... kind of reminds me of other religion based wars and how about the witch trials? Am sure the disinformation and blocking of real information from these vulnerable people does not help.

this wouldnt have happened if more americans had been angry in 2024. but nooooooooooo!, they werent angry, they were foolish. they succumbed to their prejudices. they, once again, allowed the peace guy to fool them while he exploited their ignorance.

But it is too late already, in my opinion.
