The debate about government shutdown and DHS funding should be the line in the sand. Our democracy cannot survive with these departments operating as a police state against the American people. The only solution is to abolish them.
We see the threats coming against our elections in November. They refuse to say that armed thugs will not surround our poll places and influence the turnout or steal the ballots outright? Quite the opposite, some have suggested that is their plan.
There can be no compromise on this matter. ICE must go. All their funding must be stopped immediately. Otherwise, our democracy will not survive. That is the line in the sand that must be drawn right now. If we must bear the hardships now, it will be better than the burden of a dictator and a totalitarian state.

While Trump may have an iron grip around the Executive Branch, he has very little actual control over anything else.
Ask Portland, Chicago or Minneapolis.
The use of ICE to terrorize the populace is working in our favor.
It is why Trump and Republicans are terrified Dems will now not only retake the house, but the senate as well, which was until recently considered nearly impossible.

(38,958 posts)costs to deport each person. Some like the ones sent to third countries have cost over 1 million each. Does it make sense to spend 1 millon dollars to deport a worker at a Mexican restaraunt. I would think some of our political leaders would be talking about this. Like the ICE budget divided by the number of people deported, it has to be a ridiculous cost.
