National Governors Association calls off Trump event after White House invited only Republicans

https://www.adn.com/nation-world/2026/02/10/national-governors-association-calls-off-trump-event-after-white-house-invited-only-republicans/
WASHINGTON — The National Governors Association will no longer hold a formal meeting with President Donald Trump when the group of state leaders meet in Washington later this month after the White House planned to invite only Republicans.

“NGA staff was informed that the White House intends to limit invitations to the annual business meeting, scheduled for February 20, to Republican governors only,” Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican who is the chairman of the NGA, said in a Monday letter to fellow governors obtained by The Associated Press. “Because NGA’s mission is to represent all 55 governors, the Association is no longer serving as the facilitator for that event, and it is no longer included in our official program.”

The NGA is scheduled to meet in Washington from Feb. 19-21. Representatives for Stitt, the White House and the NGA didn’t immediately comment on the letter.

Brandon Tatum, the NGA’s CEO, said in a statement last week that the White House meeting is an “important tradition” and said the organization was “disappointed in the administration’s decision to make it a partisan occasion this year.”

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt did the right thing in cancelling the meeting with Trump.

and that the event "is no longer included in [the NGA's] official program."

The event may still happen. The Repug govs may still all go to the WH at the same day/time.

These are career politicians. Even if you take their words as true, you still have to parse the language closely.

We shall see.

That statement leaves open that there may still be a meeting at the WH between only Repug govs and The Dotard, either at the previously scheduled day and time or any other. It just wouldn't be a nominal NGA event.

The NGA is having an annual event in DC on February 19-21. That event is still happening. Traditionally, part of that event is a meeting between the all the Governors and the President. That traditional meeting has been removed from the agenda for the NGA meeting. The rest of the NGA meeting will still take place.

The NGA is scheduled to meet in Washington from Feb. 19-21.

His statement says nothing about about Republican governors still meeting Trump.

The fact that this comes from the state where 2020 stolen election propaganda will be taught as fact in state public schools is significant.

However, if such a meeting still happens after NGA steps away as facilitator we all need to pay close attention. This could be a step in an attempt to plan midterm election interference.

...event--it is still an important thing for the NGA to have done.

The fact that a Republican chairman of the NGA can still see beyond the politics and recognize the mission of a bipartisan organization is a very small win for normalcy--but a win nonetheless.

I'm sure TPUSA will step in to "facilitate" it--complete with a Kid Rock intermission--but that will just be another bad look for MAGA....

that it was Republicans only, so he could threaten them all at one time........They will all come anyways, to be told what the 2025 dictates, He dictates, and what Putin is dictating for the upcoming year. And especially all the ways that they have planned to corrupt the elections...........And that all of them better fall in line, or they will be screwed over royal as retaliation..........

The Blue States are already getting trashed, in every way the Republicans can dream up........

We here in Colorado are really getting dumped on by the Republicans......it was notched up a great deal when Governor Polis recently refused to pardon the corrupt, if not treasonous act, by a Republican Election Official ,who was found guilty of her acts and is in prison. (Trump can't pardon her because it is a "State" matter)
