AP: Thune warns Homeland Security will shut down if Democrats don't work with GOP

...most of the nation disapproves of the entire security regime:

The approval ratings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem are at an all-time low, according to polling data analyzed by CNN.

Public support for ICE and DHS has fallen to new lows during President Donald Trump's second term, while Noem's net approval remains negative across polls, according to the CNN report.

Citing national polling data from Fox News, Quinnipiac and The New York Times/Siena, Enten reported that ICE's net approval hovered around even during Trump's first term, fell to -17 in June after operations in Los Angeles and slid further to -27 following Minneapolis.

He said, citing Gallup data, that DHS's job rating—measured by the share describing performance as excellent or good—declined from 59 percent in late 2017 to 42 percent in late 2025.

4. There is a lot more to Homeland than ICE

TSA, the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, Cyber Security, FEMA, WMD programs. The insanity that we are seeing is already funded by their ugly bill so the shutdown will not impact that.

5. Republicans are not equipped to repair or rebuild our security or immigration systems.

They built these broken systems and consider them working in the manner designed. This is the real problem. They are getting rich on these systems while we live at the heel of a boot.
