they had a running joke..."There are apparently no nazis in Germany. Not a one. Guess we should have invaded Romania or somewhere instead." The general populace would never admit that they supported the regime. Even as it imprisoned, killed out right, or worked their neighbors to death. Even though they lived a stones throw from a Buchenwald subcamp. Even though slave laborers, Jews, political prisoners, Poles, Czechs, Dutch, French, Russians, etc. were inescapable. They knew exactly what was going on. After what he saw, dad hated them for it. To his dying day as far as I know.

A war bride and always treated us kids great...The Nazi indoctrination was strong though.
She did not say anything Anti American or outwardly anti semitic but things "leaked" out... I distinctly remember her talking about one of our friends who was Jewish... She liked him and said "he was a Jew but a good Jew"... It rose the hair on my neck... All her kids had anti semitic tendency's so I can just imagine what was said behind closed doors...One child said that her friend had a "jew accent".. uff...
My best friend never ever said anything anti semitic..
Ironically growing up most of our friends were Jewish....
This shit never stops...
